Vertuo's only downside is its high cost. But you can enjoy the similar or even better taste of Starbucks or any decent coffee shops at home with half price and not have to wait in the line. I hope Nespresso make it more affordable though.

Frankly, it's a combination of convenience and the taste. I take a double shot over ice with some half-and-half, so I don't mind the bitterness because it's softened quite a bit. I use the same-sized cup to extract from the larger, flavoured capsules and make the same drink. While I'm not a fan of the company, it's a concession I make for the sake of convenience.

It's all about the bottom line. A motor that spins at 7000rpm cost 1/10 the prices of a high pressure pump.

You can get foils to make your own capsules at a fraction of the price.

You can and I do use refillable pods, using my own coffee choices. I generally use it because it is fast, clean and convenient. I don’t have the time or patience to make better coffee in the morning. It beats drip coffee machines and with a milk frother it makes good lattes.

I like the conveniences machine and have used it for over a year I find it convenient and the selection of coffee seems to be endless I find no fault in this machine and the price for the pods is reasonable for what you get saying that I know it's objective but I like the convenience of this machine and it's consistency and firstly no maintenance very little cleanup I give this machine a thumbs up for what it's worth.

I have a Nespresso Virtuo and use Diavolto capsules , I am 86 and don't feel like surfing around in the kitchen making a cup of coffee.I have been drinking coffee for at least 60 years, and know what I prefer. My Nespresso Vert uo pods are delivered.

Personally what would worry me is that the "crema" is too thick to create latte art, because personally I enjoy milk based espressos drinks, and latte art is a fun part of the creation process ☕

I bought a Nespresso Vertuo machine as a replacement for a classic one, just as a secondary support machine (some friends don't fancy barista coffee, so good for them...). I was attracted by all the tech talk and the sleek design. The test of the machine was appalling: foam feels weird, taste is dry, feels watery for milk drinks; by comparison, classic capsules taste muuch better. We loved the design but had to sell it as second hand after a few days using it ... Awful among the awful...

That was thorough! But not boring!! I watched because I wanted to purchase one. My daughter just did and likes way better than the Kurieg! Yes convenience is why I would like. I like weird foam texture as well. My husband says kurieg tastes burnt. On my coffee bar I have an espresso machine, french press, kurieg, Bunn, and Starbucks instant. I use them all! I like changing it up. I also buy at coffee chains all the time. So I thank God all the time for making the coffee bean.

Which way is the water flowing? Is it being pumped against the centrifugal force and exiting the center by any chance? I'm wonder if they've made a continuous flow centrifuge out of that spinning pod.

Hmmm… I got one of these as a gift. I like it. Call me crazy but I found a way to reuse the pods so that I am not wasting plastic and it works perfect for me.

Crema from a espresso machine is the same though, instead of mixing it pumps air through the coffee.

I’m a college student and decided to splurge on one of these and let me tell you, it’s wayyyy better than the crappy little drip coffee pot that I used to use. Yes the pods are expensive upfront, but it’s saving me money because I’m no longer going to my local coffee shop anymore to spend $3+ on a coffee everyday. As someone who just wants something of slightly higher quality to get me through school, this is absolutely the best!

I have one of these, used to have a nespresso pod machine and before that I was way more into selecting specific beans and grinding them the right way and using V60s, cafetières, moka pots, and learning how to use these with right temperature water and weight of coffee etc. And I gotta say, I love it. Not a huge espresso drinker, but it can make quick and easy espresso better than I ever could without a far more expensive coffee machine. With an electric milk frother I can have a latte that’s as good as I’d expect from Starbucks for way cheaper. It’s a shame that thanks to the patent I can only choose nespresso coffee unlike the pods but I think if you’re not a “coffee person” who has the time, effort and subject interest to put into the ins and outs of making good coffee yourself, it’s really convenient, tastes good, I’d always recommend it. Foam may not be real crema but its still nice

Great video. For me, it's all about the convenience of the pods and the machine (and I'm willing to pay a premium for it).

3 years late but I just got one of the newer models of this and I would be curious to here your take on the resealable lids that allow you to re-use the pods. Since the bottoms aren't punctured it seems like a great option (I did order a set but haven't gotten them yet to try). I plan to keep a pod of each size and experiment.

A great tip for this though is on the newer machines if you double tap the start button it will brew the larger 7.77 oz pods at a double espresso level. I've found these taste much better than running them at a full cup level.

I bought one mainly for convenience but I also really enjoy the coffee it makes, which is a big plus. I refuse to get a Keurig, which makes awful & weak coffee, in my opinion.

I've recently bought a Nespresso Vertuo Pop and have to say.... I love it! For me it is easy to use, the coffee tastes great and I can quickly brew just one cup rather than a whole pot full. I do like coffees with foamed milk too though, which I guess may be a big NO to a coffee aficionado such as yourself. However, I also bought the Nespresso milk foamer and that combined with a double espresso pod makes, in my opinion, a fantastic cup of coffee. It gets a big thumbs up from me! :)

Have this. It's fun. More economical than an espresso machine because we are on their monthly plan. Also, very popular in Italy. I would love a proper coffee machine though. (says as she is trying to move away from coffee)

I haven’t been algo’d to you before so nice to come across this. It sounds like the coffee is fine (and very fluffy), my concern would be reliability. Looks like these could be landfill in a reasonably short time relative to other methods. My stovetop is now 35 years old, it’s not fluffy though..

James nailed it. I remember the Dualit case well and when I first saw the Vertuo system 5 or 6 years ago my immediate reaction was “I bet a new patent is driving this rather than better coffee”

I’ve owned Nespresso machines for a while and have both an Original Line and Vertuo. I can’t tell if James likes them or hates them but it reminds me of Ollivander’s line in Harry Potter about Voldemort: “…He Who Must Not Be Named did great things – terrible, yes, but great.” And that’s James’ assessment of Nespresso - not amazing but intriguing nonetheless.

Tbh... If it tastes good, who cares?😂
