This songs feels like my relationship with my mom.

This really feels like how it is to be closeted (I'm pansexual) when your mom keeps saying how glad she is that all her kids are straight and without mental problems. (Which are both wrong btw) I have adhd and dyscalclia and I like all genders. I always feel so guilty when she says that truly.....and it doesn't help when she tells me that 'those' people are all going to hell for loving differently... thanks for listening if you've made it this far :,)

am i the only one interpreting this as a trans song? haha. archeology excavation is basically self harm, and the bones is a representation of your agab. the repetitive theme of faking being someone else just hits me as how it feels to be in the closet, and personally for me it’s just not safe to come out

i usually sing along in harmony to cavetowns songs bc the melodies tend to be a little too deep for my comfort, and ive noticed that every last one of his songs has such an angelic harmony. not to mention, half the time he's singing the angelic harmony. just one of the many reasons cavetown is my favorite artist <3

I'm planning on coming out to my parents soon. This song is really peaceful though and is helping me deal with the idea of that change and the scariness of all of it

I love the illustration. The color is darker on the dogs head representing anxiety, there's pink on the chest representing the heart. This just hits diffrent once you'll notice that, although this song is relatable and perfect enough even without seeing that.

the thing is, my dog was sick and it caused my little cat to die
after that, my mom started to hate our puppy. he was still a child he didnt chose to have this kind of disease. all he wanted was love and a family that would care for him. right now he's inside a cage outside. he cries every night because hes's scared.. i was soo scared of my mom resenting me that i just agreed with her. if only i hadn't agreed, if only i closed my door properly non of this would have happened.. its all my fault...

Came back to this song after a while after feeling guilty for something I did. It’s a trivial, small fault that happened by pure forgetfulness but my heart aches cause I love her so much. Just trying to do my best to get over it :)

As a transmas nb,, this makes sense because all the transphobes say that when archaeologists dig me up the will find “female bones”, and whatever I do to prove I’m valid I still feel a bit of guilt because I can’t pleas everyone, even if they don’t deserve sympathy.

I only started listening to cavetown a year ago, so I’m pretty late but this song really hits me line by line. It reminds me of my struggle with religion paired with discovering that I’m queer.
I don’t think the “loving” God people tell me despises is one I want to follow, but I can’t bring myself to sever ties with my faith. Maybe if I just keep pretending to be “normal” then it’ll go away. I reject my identity for God, or I reject God for my identity - no matter what I do, I feel guilty🌻

this entire song feels like its about being trans.
heres my interpretation.





"i dont think that this feels like love but i dont wanna let go," this could mean not liking the gender you were born as, but not wanting to let go. when i first realized i was trans, i didnt wanna let go of being a woman.
"maybe if i just do what you want then youll leave me alone." maybe this could mean someone wanting you to not be trans, and it results in you forcing yourself to present as cis again just to be left alone.
"i hate your guts but ill meet you same time same place, tomorrow." im probably reaching with this but maybe hes talking about the doctors that he needs to see in order to medically transition?
"an archaeology excavation on my body, and im brushing so gently, theyre trying to cover up the bones underneath." this 10000000% references the "what about when the scientists dig up your body?! then theyll see your real gender!!" arguement.
"no matter what i do, i feel guilty.." this most likely means feeling guilty about being trans, probably internalized transphobia.
"crossing all my fingers and toes that i dont wake up again in a black hole." this could either mean wishing that u wake up and u finally have the body you want? or it could just mean being depressed every day.
"she said she would send me back home to decide if i wanna die miserable." this sounds like someones telling you "YOU CANT BE TRANS!! IF YOU WANNA STAY WITH ME, DETRANSITION!!!" so your sent away until you can decide if you wanna give up your identity for someone.
"doctor, im not doing too well. if this shit was a choice, i wouldnt need your help." BEING TRANS. if being trans was a choice, he wouldnt need the doctors help because he'd just be cis again.
