America is resorting to dishonest, underhand tactics to contain China whilst claiming the false moral superiority of democratic humanity values. For example the Uighurs have already been proven beyond doubt that there is no genocide but America keeps up with there lies. Interestingly, the same tactics used whenever that country is poised Orr perceived to be economically to overtake America. America is becoming the world's terrorist organisation of the 21st century.

There is one major difference in this Cold War. China has money. The soviet system only had a limited appeal to the poor in the US and some middle class students. The chinese system is perfectly acceptable to the likes of Musk or Bezos. They'd still be rich if the chinese ran things probably richer since any limitations would be gone. And this is a problem because those folk have no loyalty except to money the soviets could never promise Rockefeller that his stocks would be secure if they ran the world.

@TLDR News US. You are comparing apples to oranges here. Biden is doing the same strategy as every president since Nixon. Trump tried to cut ties with the entire world. He said multiple times that he doesn't care about China becoming the most powerful country on Earth.

I think Trump poisoned the diplomatic well before he left forcing future presidents to have to justify their policies more now. I recall presidents after presidents tend to get away with platitiudes and symbolic gestures because, for better or worse, traditional US allies tended to know what US foreign policy would look like from administration to administration. A given US President could bluster or placate, but the pattern has held with minor variation depending on the party and/or platform in office. But now, after Trump decided to pick a different kind of fight with China—then lumped most of the US allies in the trade war as well—traditional US allies are now taking a closer and harder look at their trade and US relations more carefully now, knowing full well that someone on the other end could pull the rug out from under them. This has also made a lot of countries hesitant to go all in on being anti-China or anti-Russia now because—they now know the political climate in DC has become more turbulent and breaking it off with China might leave them as an isolated country, vulnerable to getting picked apart by their neighbors or other large economies.

Comparing Trump and Biden on anything and asking "who did it right"? is a ridiculous question. Trump is a scientifically illiterate fascist who allowed COVID to spiral out of control while baselessly blaming the Chinese for creating it in a lab, and Biden is a senile, corrupt conservative Hindenburg presiding over the dying days of democracy in the US. They are both terrible leaders, just that one is worse than the other.

Are you pretending there is anything rigorous in comparing two mandates, one complete and the other less than a year in? I won't even spare time to watch the video. The title in itself suggests the bias in the analysis. Next time you want to (pretend to) analyse a strategy, give it time to show results.

The cause? Self interest of course! As well the realisation

America has abandoned Capitalism and has chosen to
shuffle paper! China is going the other way by creating
consumer goods and using Capitalist methods!

Did you not notice it's controlled by a "COMMUNIST" party? Of course it's using government funding to distort the free market! China does not believe in the free market. "Stealing" intellectual property also is not particularly taboo for communists. After all, "property is theft", and intellectual property is primarily a tool of market manipulation itself, anyway.*

*To quote Nina Paley, "copying is not theft". When someone copies your intellectual property, you don't actually loose anything. It's just that people have less of an incentive to buy from you if they can copy your design or art, and thus you have less of an incentive to create original ideas. (Or, to put it another way, prohibiting others from copying your idea gives a greater advantage to people who create ideas than in the more natural state where people can copy ideas, similar to how protecting physical property rights makes stealing less profitable and rewards producers and other legal obtainers of goods more than in anarchy.)

I wonder if calls to sanction China over human rights issues actually could have any impact on China's behavior, or are just a co-optation of people's legitimate moral concern over CCP policies by economic protectionists from other countries.

i think both approaches are futile in terms of their ostensible purposes, and even counterproductive, and that both are mainly, in reality, plays for support from domestic voters. one thing you didn't mention is that there were, and still are, three major nuclear military forces in the world. when nixon started our history of cooperation with china, it had the effect of drawing china towards us, and away from russia. our current animosity towards china has reversed this trend. of course it's not as simple as that, and china is, and will continue to be, a serious rival to us for world power. they have proven a lot more adaptable than the russians for sure. but i don't think it's a good idea to just ignore those massive stockpiles of nuclear weapons that we, the russians, and china still have. the politics of atomic warfare never went away. we have just gotten very used to the current standoff.

Which would certainly paint a different picture about Trump 'directing his trade war at anyone and' Biden 'being the diplomatic one'.

imo, China is secretly anti-nationalist with imperial aspirations, and communist powers have a history of turning militaristic the moment they feel its safe enough. I believe China plans to advance these goals using economics to build a military force. Therefore, I take any anti-US antagonism from China much more seriously than from North Korea or Iran, and they should be kept in check. We're not going to get anywhere if we regress to age of empires. Lookin at you, Russia.

I might settle for defensive economics if it appears to work right away, but direct diplomacy is a waste of time. I would prefer offensive economics and a growing economy backed by a strong military that would show the world we aren't going anywhere. That would bring allies and enemies to the table. And once there, we shouldn't use that position to screw every other power for our own profit.

The US was successful in turning a majority of its population against China but the inverse it worse as over 1 billion Chinese sees the US negatively. On top of that a majority of Europeans, South Americans, Africans, Middle East and East Asians view Americans negatively. So it is like over 80% of the world don't like Americans. Maybe the US should try another approach to endear themselves to the world instead of going MAGA, endless wars and trade wars.

China has a very particular way of stealing intellectual property (they don't know what that means, by the way....). What they do is invite you to China to create a joint venture. You train their people but can't take your profit OUT of the country (there are limits on how much cash you can withdraw per DAY from a Chinese bank and how much you can send OUT of the country per MONTH). So, all you can do is REINVEST. Then they make it difficult for you to trade. You leave your factory. They TAKE over your factory and start producing exactly what you did. It's a common scam on a very large scale!
