Fun fact: I went to that Epix and Chill event with a friend mostly becthe ause it was fairly close by me and we needed something to do. From what I heard, it was at least partially anorganized by Lani (I think sh e arranbigggted the guests?) And it we one of the biggest shit shows I've ever been to

I say let her make the movie. Cast her in the lead. No stunt doubles.

The unfortunate thing is that you can get onto the NYT Bestseller list by 2/3 ways:

1. Sell 5k - 10k copies in a week.
2. Get a good agent/publisher to get you that spot.
3. Do what Lani Seram did and don't get caught (this happens more than you'd think)

It's why there are so many NYT #1's that all come out around the same time.

Even if, lets say for arguments sake, that she did buy her books with the intent to resell them at conventions and didn't care/know it would put her to no1 listing. Then at best she'll be breaking even or maybe even at a loss. The book store don't give you a discount just cause you're the author so she bought all those books a full price. Then she'll have to sell them at conventions for more to make money back which is such a risk and there's no way she's gotten enough sales to justify that. AND since the books don't get tracked on convention/event sales, she's just going to lie and say "oh i've sold SO MANY already" when she probably hasn't even sold a dozen or so at each event.

The thing that gets me about claiming she bulk bought books from stores instead of the distributor to then have on hand for events is 1) why would you want THOUSANDS of copies of your book on hand??? Surely two or three dozen would suffice, and 2) buying directly from the distributor is usually CHEAPER. It makes zero sense as an author to buy from bookstores instead of buying wholesale from the distributor unless you don't have access to order from the distributor, which isn't the case for self-pub.

As an author who sells books at conventions, why the hell would you want to purchase your book in bulk at the retail price and not the wholesale price for the purposes of re-selling? If you sell it again at the same price, you bought it at, you’re not going to make any money. But, I guess if she’s buying her book in bulk at retail price, cost isn’t really a concern of hers.

Honestly at this point Lani Sarem should cut her losses, dye her hair, change her pen name and just write a new book under that and start over.

I'm glad someone is bringing up the fact that the cover of the book is stolen art, i have a print of "The Knife Thrower" which is the name of the piece in my house given to us by Gill a few years back. However it should be brought up that Gill had Alzheimer's and has recently passed away without ever being credited to my knowledge. If you like the painting I'd highly recommend checking out some of her other works, as she was a truly talented woman.

Some people have also speculated that she was the author of My Immortal (The MCR/HarryPotter/Supa Goffik fanfiction) because of the similar writing style
