You're a gift! Serously! The service you are doing to humanity....! Regarding Glycine...is it ok to take Magnesium Glycinate instead? I assume it should also increase glycine

Could you say is Betaine Hcl (as stomach acid supplement) is a methyl donor as Betaine (TMG)?

Chris , firstly thanks for a very informative video .

What's your opinion , in terms of bioavailability , of vit. b supplements in comparison with natural b vitamin sources? Do artificial supplements have a place in world that heavily relies on convenience these days?

Good video. But it irks me when people talk about COMT causing anxiety as a matter of fact. Well, it sort of does but the mechanism is more indirect: Higher levels of estrogen accumulate copper, which causes the mood and concentration symptoms. Chelate the copper out with alpha lipoic acid (and something like curcumin and/or carnosine to aid in elimination because ALA has a short half-life), and things should stabilize. Also, resveratrole is efficient in removing estrogen from the blood stream.

Oh, and estrogen raises prostaglandin E2 which can cause gastrointestinal issues, especially diarrhea.

We do need significantly more magnesium than the average person. Partially because the stress hormone cortisol removes magnesium and potassium from the body. But overall I consider my +/+ to be more of an asset than a hindrance.

Honestly I was so grateful to learn I was AA. It provided a cause for so much of the behavior I exhibited over the years that was inexplicable to me and extremely frustrating. It's truly a double edged sword. I have an excellent memory, divergent thinking, am great at hyper-focusing on subjects I am passionate about, etc., but I also have ADHD and severe anxiety. Not only that, but of course under pressure I collapse. I always felt smart yet had so much trouble demonstrating that in many real life situations, and I'm so happy to learn this is a gift as much as it is a curse. Hopefully following a methylation protocol will help me with some of the more adverse effects of having this gene variant.

Excellent explanation as usual!! I have the slowed COMT variant, but on doing a Methylation Profile blood test, i was found to have ultra high levels of SAH, which can slow COMT further. Lowering the SAH has helped a lot & making sure to get magnesium from various sources as magnesium drives COMT too.

I have low COMT activity (AA) and yeah, negative thoughts and stress really drains me, which makes it impossible to keep any job. On the counterpart I also have ADD/ADHD, which paradoxically is quite common with low COMT activity, because of too much dopamine in prefrontal cortex. Low COMT can also increase norepinephrine which in turn increases restlessness. High norepinephrine also leads to poor blood flow and digestion, so it is hard for the brain and body to get enough nutrients. I'm a normal methylator, and glycine supplements really makes me ill and my stomach upset (even with food). DIM supplements may be an alternative but it makes me ill as well. SAMe too (and not suitable for normal methylators). Is there a way to increase COMT activity without SAMe? Or to increase breakdown of estrogen?

Hi Chris, thanks for your insights. Please help me understand the role of glycine for my very slow COMT gene. I am taking a good quality magnesium glycinate and I am not sure if it causing me the issues. DO I understand correctly that it slows down the COMT gene capabilities even more, so that people with fast COMT should use it to keep some of their dopamine? Thanks in advance for your help!

Three snips of COMT ++, ++, - -. Blessing and a curse. Hyper focused on subjects or projects of interest. ADD for everything else. Excessive thirst for information. Tendency to hyper focus on single subjects for 3-6 months a time. Hard to find a healthy balance and unlatch from interest in focus.

Hi, just found your brilliant videos. I have lack of MTHFR, HMNT, DAO and a double mutation on COMT making it slow. I’m trying to figure out what supplements I need to help with all of them. Is there a list for each that I can cross reference? I can’t have quercitin for my histamine issues because I read it slows down my comt even more. Thank you

I have a warrior mutation, and I am not sure if maybe trying to increase my dopamine would be a good idea or not? Because I definitely feel a lack of motivation and drive in life, I feel quite apathetic. I have the MTHFR compound heterozygous plus the transporter gene variation (all bad). So I am trying to optimize that. Basically my mood, energy and drive are all low, I believe my baseline is rather good (good diet, exercise, sleep).

Hey Chris,

What would you suggest for someone with MTHFR C677T T/T and COMT Val/Val? How do I support the building of neurotransmitters without speeding up the breakdown by adding too many methyl groups?

Also, I seem to have character traits of a Met/Met. Is that just a variation caused by certain factors? Is it epigenetic expression (maybe caused by methylation impairment)?
