Russia is playing down reports that its forces caused the plane crash in Kazakhstan on Wednesday. At least 38 people were killed and 29 survived when the Azerbaijan Airlines passenger jet crashed. Officials in the US and Azerbaijan, as well as some aviation experts, say the plane was likely targeted by a Russian surface-to-air missile which mistook the plane for a Ukrainian drone. The plane was traveling from Baku, Azerbaijan, to the Russian city of Grozny when it veered far off course and crashed. Azerbaijan has observed a day of mourning.
