Great video, thank you for putting all this together. I never understood his appeal in the first place and never understood the debate bro community and their arrogance. And I found it especially hilarious when Ian said that him "winning" debates against Nazis aso pulled hundreds of thousands to the left. Imagine, thinking that... Holy Shit

And he always gave me kinda weirdo vibes and now I know why. Again, holy shit.. The fact that this guy still has a platform, especially in a kinda left leaning space is unbelievable and shows that not much has changed in society.
But if his treatment of other content creators (racism, transphobia, harrassment aso) wasn't enough for thousands and thousands in his community, this shit sadly will also not be enough for them to maybe think twice about this guy and his actions. It's pretty sad..

his so-called apology written on his subreddit includes way more words defending himself and accusing his critics of hyperbole or lies than it does actual apologies. More disturbing is the comments from his community which are suggesting he's actually a victim of a false narrative.

i remembered watching a video of his a couple years ago. it was a really basic one where he responded to some random tweet along the lines of "i don't trust current leftists who used to be fascists" which in my opinion is a fairly reasonable take. it's hard to know for sure if someone has truly left behind their fascist ways or if they're being genuine in turning over a new leaf. he turned it into this whole thing about how "not everyone on the left is going to agree with every little thing" which again is true but he used an example that stuck out to me in particular. he said something along the lines of "not every leftist is going to agree on he/him lesbians but you have to work with them anyway." and as a he/him lesbian who's faced transphobia/enbyphobia from all sides, that just really rubbed me the wrong way. i mean, why would i want to work along side people who don't respect me or who say vile things about me? it seemed strange that he was implying that trans people have to surrender their dignity in order to fight capitalism, instead of the possibility that we can fight capitalism and transphobia and racism and all other forms of oppression at the same time, and specifically targetting only one thing at the expense of exposing marginalized people to bigots who deliberately and intentionally disrespect them and hate them. long story short, i didn't want to engage with him anymore after that video despite it being fairly mundane just because it gave me the Bad Vibes.

but now, knowing that he's openly sexually harassed people and essentially gotten away with it, it puts that video in a different light. almost like saying "there's going to be sexual harassers and abusers on the left, but you have to ignore that to focus on the bigger issue of capitalism." and this goes back to his dismisasal of a young person's concerns of being in the same leftist communities as former fascists. i'm not saying ian is a fascist, and i'm definitely speculating on whether or not he had ulterior motives in making that response, but someone who has a history of extreme sexual harassment wanting to exist in spaces that are anti sexual harassment likely isn't going to be able to have an easy time unless he flips the narrative and convinces people that the only concern that matters is capitalism and that everything else is secondary at best, dismissable at worst.

and fuck there's other shit that should've at the very least brought his career into question like his frequent use of "ironic" misogyny to criticize women on the right is largely being ignored or justified (as though misogyny of any kind against any woman doesn't have negative effects on all women), and his apparent homophobia and transphobia (which is news to me but, again, not actually all that surprising—also his use of a portmanteau of "woke" and the r-slur, classy /s). he's untouchable at this point and it's upsetting that such a large figure of the online left is such a garbage person with a devoted toxic fanbase. i wouldn't be surprised if at some point he swings to the right at some point in the future tbh. it's clear to me he will pretend to care about things like transphobia and racism when it suits him, but for the most part, he just wants to (allegedly) rake in his 6-figure salary by making fun of cringe tweets on stream, being ~ironically~ bigoted and unironically(?) edgy, and having his fanbase protect everything he says and does at all costs.

anyway i can tell from your like to dislike ratio that ian's fans haven't found this video yet so i'm happy that your mental health is likely still pretty good at this point, though i do hope this video does blow up so a portion of his audience (the portion willing to hear good faith criticism) will learn the truth and stop giving him their attention and money.

Honestly I only knew about Ian from Noah Samson’s video about leftist debate streamers where Ian had said some anti-semantic talking points which set off some red flags for me, but I never knew his actions went so deep and disturbing. This shit is sickening and the attempts to justify or nullify the blame is just downright disgusting, especially his attempts to attack Poppy’s credibility when from the looks of it she’s been completely and totally reasonable. Honestly, I’m surprised she didn’t ask for Ian to delete his social media, the terms for his redemption from Poppy seemed completely reasonable, but he refuses to change.

I subscribed to Ian's YT channel for all of a couple of weeks until I found about him grooming his fans, and I've spent several years since confused and depressed by his continued fame and success. I mean, there are plenty of other reasons to dislike him by this point, but too many people seem to have forgotten the big one. So yeah, thanks for this.

He's racist and not invested in doing better.

I see some people argue that we need people who employ a variety of tactics against fascism and in regards to other leftist topics and that Ian is filling an important role. While I agree that being brash can be fine and has it's place there's just no justifying using racism, misogyny, ableism, and more to get it. It's not necessary. It's probably not even effective and it pushes important groups and individuals out of a space that deeply concerns them.

I was a fan of his for a while, I slowly lost interest in his content and then ultimately left his community when I realized how toxic it was. he always framed this in such a different way that made it seem like he just misread some signals once and hadn't done anything like that since. it's so gross to know as a csa survivor that I was in the community of someone like that as a minor

While Ian was a large part of why I moved to the left, as I’ve educated myself away from his rhetoric and as I’ve learned more about his history, I’ve found him to be an absolutely disgusting human being.

Even when I first started watching him, I thought it was really weird when he’d constantly bring up the fact that he’s pansexual to deflect any criticism towards things he has said about queer people. I know it's an old video, sorry to be a late comment, but I think another necessary element of a good apology is an explanation that shows the offending party is aware of how they got to a point where they were doing the thing wrong that they did in the first place. Obviously, don't make it sound like an excuse, but one should be able to demonstrate an understanding of this so they know how to avoid repeating the behavior.

Vaush is the perfect example of how it doesnt matter what you do or what you believe, as long as you refer to yourself as a popular political term you can get away with anything.

Jesus christ. I found this video just days after the recent events that came out (If you don't know already, you don't want to.). I remember that I still watched Ian somewhat off and on during this whole debacle, or maybe after any time after where he'd mentioned he sexually harassed Poppy as a little "whoops, made some mistakes" aside. If I had known the extent back then I certainly would have dropped him like a hot rock and known to denounce him whenever his name came up online. To that end, I suppose I hold some culpability to taking Ian's word for his actions and not looking into the details away from his followers and friends. I'll remember this and let it stand as a reminder next time someone I watch is in some controversy to look deeper, since when there's smoke, there may be fire. I also very much appreciate you doing the work to compile this information to inform others of predators who claim allyship with leftist spaces. After over a year of this video being posted. His career is finally gone. And It took nobody but himself to end his career.

Honestly, I don't know what to feel, on one hand I feel happy he is gone, but on the other hand slightly disappointed it took this long for his career to be over and it's not by people who are rallying against him but him accidentally opening up a child p*rn folder live on stream in 4K.
