Ngl I thought the biggest problem plaguing Terraria's community was the sheer horniness. I had no idea about the toxicity or elitism.
ОтветитьMy favorite streamer started from terraria and my friends played it back in the days, so when at some point, group in discord decided to play it, i bought the game and jumped in. Sadly the dude that started it was so competitive that i had 120 hp and scrapping for gold in world, constantly diying, hating the game more and more.while having all my armor in VANITY slots as well as accesories . Heck i didnt even know they can be enchanted , they always were raw white when i found them and eventually friends talked me into getting the loot that they didnt need( we were at Skeletron prime when i dropped the idea to get everything myself). The dude were dead set onto us having different classes even when i didnt want to continue playing ranger, and got insanelly upset about him having to switch from warrior to ranger if i want to change classe, because he didnt finish a game as warrior,( he was upset the whole playthrough about playing warrior... ). We didnt finish the game, because i werent understanding how tf lunatic cultist dragon works and got tired of blame and quit. Only later on i hopped on to test defense... and i f*** hate the expiriense from playing get fixed boys seed. At SOME points it was awesome well balanced stuff. But for most of the time it was stupid grind like it pops up in some more normal worlds in terraria. I mostly wanted to test defense and warding that was shitt*d on in talks that i saw, and it was even before your video. Thats basicly why i am here.
Oh btw in my GFB world i found a way to get Health potion before hardmode. You can fish obsidian boxes from lava, and there is like a small chance of them having this potion i think. Or something like this connected to fishing and loot.
Also Minishark is awesome, because fast attack speed allows chlorophyte bullets to track mimics when they jump around with lag, which they do very often and it leads to "telephrags" . I have been insanelly annoyed about that, before i decided to have some fun with my belowed minishark and realised that hitboxes tracked by bullets much more accuratly then images.
Normalize having fun
ОтветитьNot the whole of the community is like this.
ОтветитьThe bit about the "meta" usually being less fun is so true and I think a lot of people forget it too easily.
Sure, for you and your small group of friends, you may get the most fun out of the game by optimizing it in every possible way, but most people get enjoyment out of a game by playing it as intended, no weird glitches or skipping major sections of progression.
Wanting to play the game how you want is not a character flaw or the sign of needing to "get gud", you're just obsessed with optimization and it makes you insufferable.
Having fun being the "correct" way of playing is so true. I can tell you that I've had a lot of playthroughs so far (hundrets of hours, both on pc and mobile), but I never beat the game legit. Just never got the motivation to do it. It's because that after golem, there isn't much game content other than more bosses till' moon lord. I've spend almost 100 hours in pre-hardmode on my first getfixedboi world, and I definetly had fun. Fishing, making items with long crafting trees (e.g. terraspark boots, shellphone, bundle of horseshoe baloons, etc.)
I especially like (not just in terraria, but in any video game) doing things in an order they aren't normally done, or using glitches or obscure mechanics.
I've had 3 zenith seed playthroughs so far, and in all of them I got dungeon loot before skeletron. I didn't realise how much I learned until I saw a video from Wand of Sparking saying that they aren't sure if you can hoik through more than 1 block thick walls. I've got used to it, learned to use illuminant coating on the dungeon wall I wanted to hoik in to be able to hammer the correct blocks. I remebered about the dirt rod, which like the starfury (all sky chest loot was fished, exept wings) can break pots anywhere on the screen. I used it to get a key. I also found out that a graviard biome nullifies a bed (not sure about this, since it was quite some time ago).
It can definetly be said that if you found a way to enjoy the game, you've found the best way there is.
It’s not even about the meta at this point. It’s about tribalism. Everyone in a certain group/culture comes to an agreement on something, then they all back it up without actually checking to see if it’s reasonably accurate.
And I really appreciate seeing someone who knows what’s important in this game: having fun. We all exploit game mechanics and restrict ourselves in different ways to decrease and increase the challenge in different ways. Some people feel like certain things are too cheesy. Some people just want to push the game to its limits. Either way, I think these people will get bored of how they play and it’s important to mix it up. Make things easier, harder, whatever; what matters is that it’s fun.
As for the meta, I say it’s all fun until you’re actually playing the game like that. I like min/maxing, theorizing, and testing. Getting the highest or lowest number is intrinsically interesting, but there’s a time and place for that, and then there’s another time and place for actually playing the game.
rain world spotted, video topic good and video good (i didn't know Terraria had an expansive community, alongside it being considered toxic at times)
ОтветитьThis topic reminds me A LOT of the Dragon's dogma community. Recently it's been toxic enough to push away one of the few (and imo the best (Infinite Cringe, see her video "Goodbye and Thanks for everything") content creator of the Dragon's dogma serie.
It started the same, tantrums about most OP strats, and harrassement on discord servers/streams.
I'm not playing hardcore master mode. I don't care if anybody thinks, "It's the only true way to play the game, and if you don't then you're a casul scrub"
This isn't Dark Souls. I don't want my shit pushed in at every waking moment. Terraria is my chill game that I play to wind down from the stresses of work and life. Sometimes I feel like Calamity boss rush, but I'm more than happy to collect stuff and build
Funnily enough, I wasn’t aware of a toxic side of the Terraria community before seeing this video. I always figured everyone was aware it’s a sandbox game and the correct way to play is however you want to. And for most games, the most fun I see people having is when they’re goofing off and/or merely enjoying themselves.
I typically don’t bother looking into the actual community of something, so I don’t get exposed to an unpleasant side unless it’s the surface level. The first few examples of such bad first impressions that come to my mind are the Calamity mod and modern day Minecraft.
Honestly, from what I’ve seen (or perhaps, what I have not seen), I personally think Terraria’s community is on the healthier side. The furthest I’ve gone into this community is probably just the comment section of Wand of Sparking’s videos, so that likely explains my casual outlook.
Honestly I think at least in regards to the Discord stuff, it's not so much elitism but more just chronically online people who have spent so much of their time being exposed to hundreds of people at once that they kind of just developed a deep jadedness and cease seeing people they don't know as humans. It's a problem that affects several somewhat larger communities and I think it's a byproduct of having these massive megagroups dedicated to ALL discussion of a game and not specific aspects of a game (even though for one of the best selling games of all time, maybe even that won't do much).
ОтветитьHot take — Master Mode is badly and lazily designed, Expert is much more enjoyable experience overall and "difficulty-shamers" are shitheads. Let me explain.
Exhibit one: Expert. Increased difficulty (longer respawn time, higher stats and a lot of other smaller tweaks) but not unbearable. It also introduces new attack/move patterns for all of the bosses and improved AI for some normal enemies. However, you also get some benefits: drop rates are increased, defense reduces damage even further and you get access to a whole new roster of accessories (including Demon Heart which unlocks new item slot) most of which are game-changing. The whole experience becomes a lot more difficult, yet rewarding.
Exhibit two: Master. No new AI or mechanics, just flat 50% increase to stats (25%, compared to Expert). No new functional items (except one which gives you the same thing Demon Heart did, and a couple of mounts). It also adds... Wait, what? Thats all?!
Thats all indeed. This is exactly the same as Expert, yet more tedious. Virtually zero benefits (aside from new acc. slot) but increased difficulty in the laziest way possible. People always say "but thats meant to be even harder than Expert just for the players to challenge themselves!" to which I say "Dogshit. Why on Earth there are no new stuff? Why all of the actual bossfight changes are hidden behind FTW? I don't get it.
The worst of all is that people now INSIST that this is how game must be played now. Only MM/Legendary is valid. This is bullshit
I will play summoner, it is not meta, I do not care, I will not go fishing for 3 real hours
ОтветитьMaybe the real meta is the friends we made along the way
ОтветитьI mean officiall terraria discord is pretty bad, smaller communities are usually much better
ОтветитьI literally asked for help on tModLoader modding-help channel and the response was rude af. I asked what exactly does "closeThroughWall" in context of creating a minion and some guy responded with "You want to code, but don't know what that does? Just stop." ... Like bro thanks :( They acting like they have never been in the same position as I was before. I still don't see the reason why would somebody respond like that
ОтветитьImagine being the owner of a Discord server about wiring and getting mad that a person is on your server to do research on wiring with the intent of bringing more people into your small community
ОтветитьTbh vanilla terraria elitism is... mostly ignored due to the modding section and heck that area needs a specified video imo due how elitism and toxicity there is dangerously high but most of it are non-sense if you just literally have fun and don't care what the "Meta" or the Elitist says about. Just have fun at vanilla Terraria and at Modded Terraria with either major mod-mixing or ton of QoL mods, if you have fun that's about it < well most of cases it doesn't. Too bad most of idiots who are "helping" in vanilla and modding help in discord (i will not mention servers) berates poor lads trying to get something out of it and forcing to eat their words as gospel. TL:DR - Elitism in Terraria both Vanilla and Modded communities are stupidly high.
ОтветитьPhantasm having higher damage is cool and all but can it "BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*BOOM*RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*BOOM*RRRRRRRRRRRR"?
ОтветитьThis is so surprising to me. I've played so much of this game, with friends and alone. The thought of someone being upset at how another person plays a pve sandbox game is so unbelievable! This game is designed for how the individual wants to play it. Countless items and stratagies along with very little hand holding allows us to choose our own path. I'm shocked to hear this news but as I'm typing this I realize that this hate trend has been done with other games like Elden Ring. Elite "veterans" getting angry at players new to souls games for how they play and what weapons they use. Its a tragic circle that causes divisions in communities for the sake of making the elitist feel good about themselves over putting others down. I can't imagine the reaction some people would have knowing that my first playthrough I tried using cannons to kill the twins with my friend. I hope people snap out of this mindset and realize that games are simply made for fun. Thank you for putting light on this subject.
ОтветитьI'm sorry to hear about this. I recently picked up Terraria after having played maybe an hour a year ago (due to my computer making the game lag badly).
I like to try out all of the new weapons, accessories, tools, etc in any new game. I don’t usually spoil myself, but listening to long form content is how I relax while playing.
I think that I had some weird master mode challenge run going on in the background while I was trying to figure out npc housing and hammers in classic mode.
My current favorite weapon is the Bees Knees because it shoots out a line of bumble bees and that makes me happy. Honorable mentions go to the enchanted boomerang, the crimson doomcloud (I forget the name, magic weapon), and my growing imp posse who kept me safe while fishing.
got told to keep myself safe multiple times for mixing content mods (i was literally playing single player)
ОтветитьI have barely any human interaction.
ОтветитьI think it's 100% reddit's fault
ОтветитьThe "meta" is making a rainbow brick penis as soon as physically possible
ОтветитьBro made the mistake of joining the official Terraria discord server 💀
ОтветитьMaking fun of people in the HELP channel is the dumbest thing to do in a server
ОтветитьPraise to you for doing something about it!
My experience as a casual player is that everyone likes terraria, and every non-terraria server that has players, those players are positive, seems like the good ppl dont want to engage with terraria servers probably cause of the toxicity.
Man idfk why all of us are femboys, like does playing terraria just gives you an invisible chance boost of becoming one? :3
ОтветитьI was treated so badly as a new kid trying to make a mod by every terraria modding community i tried to join that i gave up within a month, and still refuse to engage with terraria online communities almost ten years later. im unsurprised to hear theres an elitism problem, but if one of the only seeming big-name terraria guys thinks it's getting worse, i cant help feeling a little scared for any kids out there that just want to learn to make things for the game they like. i was already treated like an incompetent loser for having trouble finding coding resources.
ОтветитьAbsolutely disagree. When community starts fighting against "toxicity" it dies. "Toxic" members are ones with actual passion. And when they are pushed out - the community becomes a pathetic shadow of itself.
ОтветитьIt's easy to assume people know things when you get into a game and a community that has decent game knowledge. I've been guilty of it in the past. It's something that people can fall into if they don't really think about it.
Ответитьintolerance is intolerable.
Ответить🤓: "erm what???? you're using ALCHEMISTNPC and LUIAFK?????????? because you "don't wanna farm for potions and make arenas"????????? because 30 potion buff is better than spamming B in a fight????? you're SOOOO bad. get better, kid .learn to play vanilla terraria before playing modded."
Ответитьi do see this in myself a bit especially with fishing :D
ОтветитьMinishark is honestly great weapon. It have nice DPS and is very enjoyable to use. People are just bitching for no reason
ОтветитьI absolutely love Terraria, one of my top 10 games for sure. But I rarely play the game. (I've played it twice in the last 5ish years.) I play it haphazardly I use whatever weapons I have on hand etc. Only recently have I started a new playthrough and have been enjoying myself and I purposely stay away from meta unless I get the weapon accidently. I almost never interact with the communities in games for exactly the reason of this video. Every community can be such a contrast where you can meet some of the most helpful people ever and at the same time you can stumble into a group that genuinely thinks you are a lesser human being for liking something. Its sad to hear terraria has this problem too but not too surprising considering how in-depth the game is sometimes.
I would love to stumble into a community of players that are normal people that just want to enjoy a game but the risk of running into a group of vile people is a large deterrent for me in any community unfortunately.
Ive been addicted to terraria ever since properly sitting down and playing it to completion twice with a Group of friends, and I can say i was mostly oblivious to this sort of toxic behavior. Ive heard one or two bad stories, but on the whole, the game seemed far more chilled and relaxed than other games ive played.
It is a shame to hear its not as toxic free as i thought it was, but I'm not entirely surprised. I do hope that things can get better within time however. Terraria is an intensely charming and fun game, and the community it has will be a big deciding factor in how new players react when joining in or deciding if the game is for them.
A meta doesn't exist because every human being has strengths and weaknesses. My gf is way better at Melee and I'm always the Wizard. Its hard to change the playstyle, and we are way more experienced in the stuff we always do; so it for me Wizard stuff is meta and for her it's Melee. It's like telling an Artist IRL they need to be something else to gain more money and be more efficient because its "the IRL Meta". Just have fun and be proud of your skills.
ОтветитьThe vanilla Terraria community seems fine but the calamity community is cancer.
ОтветитьMe dying using melee in quee bee with full melee and killing her with shitty pre boss summoner gear liked this video
ОтветитьAnd this is why I stay away from any community. Period. No matter what the game, or even hobby, there is always going to be a small, but very loud group of people ready to criticize you because you don't do things 'the intended way'. As a guy who enjoys challenge runs in mutiple games and likes non meta ways to play, I have no reason to interact with these people since you will find they know nothing more, but the meta.
ОтветитьI've been criticized for playing on Normal or Journey mode when I'm playing by myself. Not everyone likes the experience Expert and Master mode provides but some people really think it's the only legitimate way to play the game for some reason.
Ответитьis it just me or does this guy not know how to pronounce his r's
Ответить
