Any way you cut it, or define it, going around the galaxy, and convincing parents to give away their children is still a form of child slavery.
First of all, the kid doesn't get any say in the matter. Even if he was old enough, they are lured in with tales of glory and adventure.
Second, putting a jedi in charge of these "adoptions" is unfair. The Jedi are known for their manipulative abilitys. A wave of the hand could change your mind. A threat of a lightsaber could have you sell your own mother. Or even the fear involved with old standby, "Believe me, it's for the interest of the child."
Third, the Jedi are still a part of the government. How do they know what is "best" for these kids? They have no free will, no background, and no concept that they have been conscribed as child soldiers. Either they are killed on some barren wastland at their Master's side, never to have known their roots. Or, if ypu are lucky enough to catch them all at the Jedi Temple, slaughtered like cattle by a rogue Jedi, never able to defend yourself. Even Obi-Wan had moments where he reflected on his lost loved ones. So much for severing all ties.
And after it is all done, what life do they have? No normal life, no day job, no chance at family. If you can't find something in the galaxy worth fighting for, what is the point? The only thing they are ever promised is the possibility of becoming one with the force. No guarantees. Like any other religious organization, most require 100% dedication as a form of tiding for something better. But not necessarily better for *you*.
The Jedi "recruitment process" is highly suspicious, at best.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Absolutely not.

In the acolyte they state that jedi have the right to TEST children's abilities, but still require permission from the families.

I feel like that one Clone Wars episode where Cad Bane does steal kids was specifically ordered by Lucas to show that no, the Jedi do not steal kids, nor do they take them as early as possible. The Baby Ludi thing was a misunderstanding, they thought the kid's parents were dead and then when the mom asked for the kid back it's like. You can't just unleash a Force-awakened toddler on the Galaxy.

It was a good plot about age. When Yoda was fake Jedi, he refused to teach the chosen one. And after Yoda learned from Qui-gon Jinn spirit...

If you wanna know the answer, you should read about Darth maul shadow, Hunter, how the order took away a construction worker or janitor from him, because his kid was a force sensitive, and if they think it’s inappropriate of him to still being nearby him when he walked by the Temple then they fired him. You should definitely read about Star Wars outbound flight the novel as well. Similar story, but boy this book really makes me upset what they did to people like this, or family separating them. I understand. It’s their choice and that parents choice to send them away, but they never told him see them again after the fact when they are a Jedi knights, or not.

They don't steal them, but I do think it's an unhealthy practice. Kids need parents, not just parental figures. They need people who love and care for them. That's not to say the Jedi don't care for one another, but they don't bond with the child the way a parent does. I think the Order should be accepting of anybody who is willing to open up to the force regardless of age.

They just manipulate a situation where a parent has to decide on letting her son grow up in slavery, live in a terrible place full of crime, or go off to be part of a religion she doesn't believe in that allows slavery to begin with.

This is one of the points I see a lot of folks attack the Jedi over, and they grossly misunderstand how recruitment works. There are flaws in the Jedi, but this isn’t one of them.

Yes. Yes, they do. They strongly suggest the parents do it for the "good" of the child.

"The Jedi are kidnappers - an all too familiar charge for Jedi Recruiters, this charge springs from the pain of emotional attachment. It is also technically false. Within the Republic, the Jedi Order has the legal authority to take custody of Force-sensitives, and some Masters have argued that the Force's presence in a child indicates the child's consent to join the Order even before he or she is able to speak."

- Jedi Recruiter Morrit Ch'gally, writing in The Jedi Path, Page 143.

I would once again like to invoke John Oliver's "Holy Shit That Is Not Remotely The Point" magazine.

The Jedi Order DO kidnap kids by our standards, but they deny that it's kidnapping because they've legally got a warrant to kidnap force-sensitive children.

It's one of many truly horrifying revelations in The Jedi Path book.

The answer is absolutely yes. The child gets no say in what happens to them, because if they’re old enough to decide they’re deemed too old to be trained

Will check to the link for detail, but in my opinion Jedi don't steal kids, instead Jedi take care kids who has lost their parents. Steal kids will lead to kidnapping, and I think who likes to kidnap is the Sith. 👍👍

No. They do not kidnap kids. Anyone who says that has an underdeveloped, far too overemotional mind.

Even with parental permission, it's harmful to the child. We often see Christian raised children who grow up and end up leaving Christianity and/or end up hating it. There should be a choice.

The Jedi and the Sith are both garbage. In both you have to live the way they say act the way they say. You have no real freedom. Your entire life is mapped out from the time one of them find you. The Sith and the Jedi basically make slaves of people. You are free to leave but really where are you going to go? You would have no money or marketable skills, other than space wizard. You can’t fall in love or take a spouse. The Jedi and the Sith are both pretty terrible in a lot of different ways.

But also Jedi or padawans are capable of leaving at any time if they choose and go back to their family. If they felt that the temple is not a fit for them they can actually leave but it's rare. And yes they do know where they lived they do remember their family. I know the Jedi can be easily depicted as kidnappers but yes children are tested they do get consent but also sometimes parents want their kids have a better life so they thought they could do a better good for the Galaxy. Plus at the time the Jedi Order was depicted as a high honor.

They should better explain what could happen to a community when a force gifted individual doesn't go with the Jedi. We never think about it from that end. Imagine a child that could telepathically throw knives and grown adults across the room during a tantrum? It's for the safety of the child AND the community that force gifted individuals go with the Jedi. Many societies in Star Wars wouldn't want to keep force gifted individuals around for the inherent danger they pose to the greater community. There'd be horror stories.

Can someone explain exactly why in Lore The Jedi decided to avoid attachments as part por their code? I get generally why, It may coflict with a mission or interests, but I never got why exactly It was put there in the Lore, and they should have specially put that in The Movies because that Is One of the main factors that make Anakin lean on the dark side
