Some sections of the Western left used this to say: "Oh look! It's a fascist regime banning all the left parties." Yet all the parties being banned were right wing. Either they didn't know what they were talking about, in which case they should have checked their facts BFORE making a public declaration, or they did know, in which case what they said reveals more about them than it does about politics in Ukraine. There certainly is a genuine socialist left in Ukraine, still legally existing and with most of the same moderate and extreme tendencies there are anywhere else, so ignoring it in order to identify with extreme bigots on the sole condition they are pro-Kremlin rather than anti-Russian bigots is reflection of definite conscious preference, not desperation to find an ally.
