Not trying to be negative but beliveau could've been speaking french and you could've put subtitles. Specially since language is a big deal in regards to this topic?

What they don’t mention is the linesman held the rocket back while the English player beat him up because he was French

You know the Richard brothers were good when you realize they won 5 consecutive Stanley cups in 5 years until Maurice retired

I saw video of that game he was suspended and think he was just in striking the ref. There was basically a brawl and two refs were holding the Rocket and letting two Boston players punch him. He got loose beat the main guy silly and the ref. He got two handed several times in that game also. The refs were totally one sided in that game.

A lot of passionate comments here. I wonder how many of the commenters actually saw him play. I mean, he played his last game in the spring of 1960, over 60 years ago. I'm 65 years old, and I never saw him play. From everything I've heard, he is fairly comparable with Mickey Mantle. Lots of goals, big offensive force, not so much on the defensive side. Loads of charisma, and when he was on the ice, he drew a lot of attention. You watched him because he was the Rocket, same as Mickey. Now the off-ice behavior wasn't like Mantle, but he aroused the same emotions on the ice. Latter part of his career injured a lot, very limited playing time, maybe hung on a year or two when maybe he shouldn't have, again, just like Mantle.

You should've added to your video after talking about the linesman getting punched that he was holding him so the other player could punch Richard. The league was terribly unfair for French Canadians at the time and any chance they had to get one of them down on one knee, they were taking it. This is still relevant to this day, this is the main reason as to why our Habs are the pride and joy of our city and our province. It makes us remember where we come from and how much we battled for us to still be there and speak our language.

Out of all the players I have received (or paid for) autographs from, Maurice Richard was the worst. Oh, his autograph is beautiful! His demeanor, however, was borderline contempt. Got Henri's at the same show. He was really nice. Every other hockey player was great to meet. Howe, Beliveau, Yzerman, Bossy, Worsley, Bower, Sittler, Oates, Lindsay, Abel, Mikita and so many others....just great. The Rocket.....just plain crusty. Probably because I was American. Oh well, still a great hockey player!

Probably the most overrated player of all time. He never had higher than 74 points in a season. If anything, he was on par with someone like Rick Tocchet but even he had a 100+ pt season.

Richard was said to be a one-dimensional player, only good at scoring. In truth, he could also fore check, fight, and occasionally pass the puck - he was a preeminent power forward.

I don't care what team you root for or where you're from. There are a few names associated with the sport of hockey that everybody knows, and The Rocket, is one of them. They don't name the award for most goals amassed in a season for just anybody.
