I've run a lot of groups too, but my most memorable one was the Berserker, Elf, Knight & Warlock running through Against the Ogre Hoard. The Warlock's Fear spell worked wonders to neutralize Ogres, while the Elf with Time spells (Flashback, Slow & Time Stop) allowed the Knight to replay his turn when falling into a Pit of Darkness with Plate Mail, Slow kept Ogres immediately out of a fight if they're more then 2 spaces away and TimeStop allowed the Berserker to do maximum damage with his Battle Axe. In the battle against the Ogre Lord, the Elf cast Time Stop on the Berserker, who drank a Potion of Battle Rage, granting him 2 attacks per turn. While under TimeStop, he took out the Ogre Commander in 3 attacks with his Battle Axe.
The Knight helped out the Warlock with Knight's Challenge and whomever needed a Shield Block. I learned quickly that Berserker shouldn't use Enrage as this group had no healing spells and couldn't disarm traps as well, but Frenzy & Retaliation worked well enough. Luckily the Warlock wasn't susceptible to pit traps so she was able to swing the heroes over them. This group worked well for this quest pack, though in hindsight i think a Dwarf would've been a better pick over the Berserker.
Frozen Horror does have extra items for the barbarian, but you'll be too dead to use them.
Ответитьi just wish the rogue expansion wasnt impossible to find, and not listed for insane prices on ebay. makes me consider picking up all the expansions, just in case...
ОтветитьI’ve been a fan of HeroQuest since the 90s but have kept mostly to the OG games. I’ve been reluctant to open my mythic tier order to be honest. I came here looking for comprehensive info on the new expansions and this channel delivered. This is now my go-to for HQ content. Subscribed!
Ответитьare the First Light heroes the same heroes at a different time and place? They have the exact same hero card art and same stats (not counting a small gear change) but just having different sculpts to visually differentiate is fine. we can ignore the fact of alternate plastic colors for two of the formerly mythic exclusive heroes. 4 sculpts of the barbarian (3 in retail, GS, FL, FH), 4 sculpts of the elf (3 in retail, GS, FL, MOTM), 3 sculpts of the dwarf (2 in retail; GS, FL), 4 sculpts of the wizard (2 in retail, GS, FL), 3 sculpts of the knight (1 still available in retail, ROTDM), 2 sculpts of the rogue, 2 sculpts of the monk, 2 sculpts of the berserker (jod), 2 sculpts of the explorer (jod), 3 sculpts of the druid (2 in retail, ATOH)... 29 unique hero sculpts... 21 available in retail. so plenty of 4 hero party combinations possible from a party of 28-32 bp down to 19, since at least JoD allows character play order to change every round if desired.
ОтветитьHeroQuest is meant for 2-5 players. it can be played theoretically with 1 player via the app. one person controlling more than one hero has always been a thing in the game, but the app only allows a party of 4 heroes maximum (not counting mercenaries, it allows 12 (see above, one person controls 4 characters... a hero and 3 mercs!), but in theory MOTM allows more than this simply if you own other expansions with mercenaries). most quests (all but 9 of them) are designed for 4 heroes, but the mercenary quests could certain be appropriate for more than 4. Frozen Horror was originally built with another 12 BP worth of mercenaries in mind for quests 4-10 (they'll all die), but then it was boosted to 24 BP with the remake (and MOTM was left wide open). having a big army of heroes would be possible even without modifying the game, just get a big enough table and plenty of pencils & patience. ;) and if you really wanted to you've got 5 sets of combat dice (though the white and bone are pretty close so don't roll those at the same time) even ignoring the fanroll and rare giveaway dice, and up to three colors of movement dice (you only "need" two... zargon uses his rarely) if you want to be fancy. then there's the hearthkin horn and the fangwarden amulet, but one is a single use (4 more characters for a single quest; or one animal companion per quest).
ОтветитьKnight, Explorer, Elf, Bard
ОтветитьI find your lack of Dwarfs disturbing! LOL!
ОтветитьWell done! Great video. I`ve gave that topic a lot of thoughts, too. This was very helpful.
ОтветитьI'm a big Fan of your HeroQuest-Content! I'm located in Germany, so for unboxings and stuff like that, german channels make more sense for me (to get a peak on the translated versions). But videos like this one convinced me to finally hit the Subscribe Button :-) Thanks for your Content and keep up the good Work!
ОтветитьDam still need a good ranger
ОтветитьProbably nostalgia and being from the 80's/90's generation, but my favorite lineup is classic elf, classic barbarian, classic dwarf and classic wizard. They are the heroes I grew up with
ОтветитьI think the next character they could add should be a cleric or a priest, who specializes in healing, buffing and dealing with the undead enemies. Give them 6 holy spells they can use, like the wizard, with some regenerating ones.
ОтветитьMe and my wife are currently playing through the main quest for the first time since the 90's. I originally tried out the warlock along with the dwarf (my favorite), but after she died a nasty, very prolonged death againt one especially persistent dread warrior and his pet abomination, I decided to go back to what I knew best: the barbarian. My wife chose the knight and the elf, so that's our main party right now. I'm sure we'll be running into some trouble with the limited spells we have along the way, but so far brute force has served us well enough. As for the extra heroes from other expansions, they're still fresh from being painted, so I'm going to have to experiment with them before actually forming any opinion on how useful they are.
ОтветитьWatching this video while sleeving the cards of my recently received addition to my HeroQuest collection, the Jungles of Delthrak.
ОтветитьThe best thing about HeroQuest is - and always will be - the DWARF 😉
ОтветитьAwesome breakdown. Will keep this combo in mind for future playthrough
ОтветитьThe Explorer, always, cause he's the coolest. Dwarf is clutch. Wizard is the most fun. And anyone else for a wild card.
ОтветитьI have a rules question: In the base game quest Legacy of the Orc Warlord it says that a hero without weapon rolls 1 attack die. What‘s the point of having a dagger then? 😳
ОтветитьDruid; dwarf; ranger; & warlock.
Shorties for the win!
That's so cool about new HeroQuest. You have more than 4 characters and you can choose their genders. I've got vids of myself playing the HeroQuest mobile app on my smartphone.
ОтветитьI was considering playing through First Light with an entire B Team of sorts and this definitely pushes that concept for me. I agree with the assessment here overall, but was figuring to try the Warlock in place of the Elf, with only the wizard as the OG. Just to spice it up and really only for First Light.
Ответить2 Manlings and a couple of Knife Ears Elgi?! That's going into THE BOOK!!! Vengeance for the S-H-O-R-T-S!!!
ОтветитьI only play with a *painted* team
ОтветитьGreat video and analysis of the skills. Thank you
ОтветитьI had no idea there were so many new characters in modern Heroquest!
Back in the day our group made up a couple of our own to supplement the original 4 - a monkey and a dragon! 😁
Me and my friend Andy have four heroes of the realm at the moment. This is Wizard Elf Dragon Knight and Warrior Priest. Pretty balanced line up with magic and brute force. Our homebrew HQ group consists of Barbarian Wizard Elf Celric and Knight. Again a good balanced group but I always think it’s how the group works as team when it comes to quests. ⚔️⚔️⚔️👍👍👍
ОтветитьAnother top video :) 🇬🇧🇦🇺👍🏻💥
ОтветитьThe only issue I have with so many choices: once you start a campaign and plan on moving your team to a new expansion, you are stuck with them. Going back to a neophyte group makes your next challenge...huge. However, your line-up looks excellent, I shall give it a go. Great video.
ОтветитьWohooo - new ABNB-video!
ОтветитьGreat breakdown of your HQ All-stars!
ОтветитьThis is also my group of choice. If more muscle is needed i may choose the barbarian instead of the wizard.
ОтветитьDruid with battle axe, helmet, bracers, shapeshifter, and Rockskin gives you 5/6. Lots of resources, but could tank longer than it’s given credit.
ОтветитьIt's best to add heroes as you go along. Barbarian, Elf, Dwarf and Wizard to start. Sub out Rogue for Dwarf sometime to buff him/her up when you get to Mage of the Mirror and Rise of the Dread Moon because they are the Rogue Heir of Elethrone. Knight should be added for Rise of the Dread Moon for lore and the Elf for sure. Bard has to be in Spirit Queen's Torment because of the story, it's better that way. Sub him out for the Elf. Monk should be around for Ogre Horde since he/she wants to fight in the tournament. With the addition of First Light and if you have bought Jungles already, run the Explorer and berserker in 1st light so they are ready for Jungles, along with the Dwarf because of lore. Warlock and Druid have no place, so maybe throw them in when you have an opportunity to switch things out when the Wizard or Elf character aren't working.
ОтветитьI love the idea of Heroquest. It is a fun adventure game for beginners. I think it is funny that the barbarian ends up with a sheild, armour and helmet like a knight carrying aloft his trusted broadsword 😂. The elf becomes a paladin with spells, and the Dwarf becomes a tank😅. My biggest issue with th3 game is how janky and annoying the combat phase is with all those sheilds on the dice stuffing up a characters attacks 😢.
ОтветитьGreat vid.
ОтветитьSomone shuld make a cave man hero card to use the air ragnar figure with make him like the barb but he can’t use advanced weopns so add stone ax spear and stone club as wepons and furr armor as his eqwitment he dissent start with it he earns gold but insted of spending it he uses it as crating time every 109g he gets he can craft one of his itoms
ОтветитьGreat video. I love the Knight's abilities, but the Barbarian has the nostalgia and just look at the muscularity. Hard choice, but as a resident Zargon player, it's not one I have to make, haha.
ОтветитьAnother great video! Perhaps you should do a couple of videos showing this team of yours in action! The few battle videos you did were great, and showing off this team adds your flavor too it!
ОтветитьI say forget the rules. Use 4 of the same character..... Hello Orc Bard.😊
ОтветитьI hate that the Rouge can't be bought anymore
ОтветитьBack in the antiquity era ( '93 😊 ), I home-brewed a Cleric and a Rogue as alternate heroes, both figures were lifted from alternate GW games. The Cleric had some spells; a boost, a heal, and a shield, and the ability to paralyse undead for a turn, subject to a roll. The Rogue was a little like this new Explorer class it would seem, with a few variations.
But I rarely played, so, a favourite team was never really an option, that was up to the players to pick from the 6 available, so they would switch out members depending upon the expectations of the scenario; Looting? Grab the Rogue. Crypt crawling? Cleric!
The Rogue and the Monk are easily my favorite Heroes. It's a shame the Monk falls off in the late game because they are incredibly fun in the early game!
ОтветитьI've played a lot of quests with various hero groups and some were terrible.
I tried running through the quest packs with the Barbarian, Druid, Elf & Warlock but the Elf and Warlock both died in the Trial and were replaced with another Elf and the Wizard, but the Wizard died in Lair of the Orc Warlord due to a Wandering Monster rolling two consecutive 3-skull attacks. She was replaced by the Rogue, who made it halfway through Keller's Keep before being killed and replaced by the Dwarf. That group lasted.
However it's not my most memorable group as quest packs change scenarios. I ran Against the Ogre Horde with a Berserker, Elf, Knight and Warlock. This was a very fun quest pack as the Ogres were extremely susceptible to the Warlock's Fear spell. Body Points mattered, so the Berserker almost never used his Enrage skill. The Pit of Darkness was to be feared by the Knight and Berserker (Berserker had Borin's Armor). The Warlock was immune to put traps under Demonform, so she was the one trying to disarm them, but I allowed her to swing the other heroes over these very dangerous traps. The Knight made a lot of saves with Shield Block. But what was most memorable was the battle against the Ogre Lord and his group. The Elf had cast Time Stop on the Berserker, who just drank a Potion of Battle Rage. He used 4 straight attacks on the Ogre Commander with his Battle Axe and killed him in 3. The Elf also cast Slow on the Ogre Lord, which didn't really help movement-wise as the Ogre Lord takes up 2 spaces and can attack diagonally. But it DID lower his attack and defense dice enough for the heroes to eventually beat him.
You can dump on the bard all you want Mr. Outlaw. I will back you up!
Ответитьmy composition of our team is the guardian Knight followed by the dwarf. Then the elf with the elf spells, followed by the monk. His ability to negate damage every time the first time he gets hit in a combat scenario and then all he has to do to get that ability back is be out of line of site for the enemies where they cannot see him. At some point, I want to put all the characters into a randomizer and whatever comes up is the team I use for either that quest or that quest book. I also thought about doing the same thing but allowing all of the different figure sculpts so you could potentially get multiples of the same type of character. The next time I play solo, I will probably do that. Great video thanks for your content.
ОтветитьMy picks for a B team would be...
Male Monk
Female Rogue
Male Explorer
Male Knight
The Bard would run the inn and serve everyone drinks before they set off.
My Elf dream team would be...
Male Champion Elf
Female Rogue
Male Elf (MOTM)
Female Elf (First Light)
I don't have the rogue or monk, so when I replayed the initial quests I used the knight, dwarf (JoD was not out yet), elf and warlock (I have the mythic tier). When I got to the Frozen Horror, I switched back to the original line up and used that for MotM as well. I haven't decided if I'll change it up again when starting RotDM.
ОтветитьYes! I would only change the “rogue” for the dwarf explorer.
Could a team consisting of a druid, the bard, the monk and the warlock survive the main campaign and all its expansions without dying once? Without the blessing of the dice god.... I don't think so.
