My opinion is that saving a historic boat is worth the cost. 6500 pounds is nothing compared to the experience.

it seems to me they paid what the market dictated on the date. If I was going to guess I was going to say $10,000.
I think it will take more than $50,000 to make it safe to cross the channel.
But, the entertainment value for viewers is something you can't put a value on.
And the fact you have the ability and the desire to put the effort and skills into the project is something I really admire.
The youngsters will grow up with the project and they will learn a lot of things like doing things right, working hard, etc.

That's way, way, less than they can recoup by just selling the engines.

They paid a fair price. Otherwise it had been sitting and rotting for decades with zero interest. Had these 2 not seen its value it very likely had been scraped or its hulk left to rot in time. When you condsider the labor hours and maint as well as $$$ and craftswork needed on boat of this isze and construction this couple will spend more than 100k just making her a seaworthy vessel. Of note this couple is doing 80% of the actual ship righting work themselves while balancing children and a business. Frankly they should be considered a Historical entity and receive some fundage from Britians massive pocket book.

How much actual research did you do? Apparently very little because you don't even know how to pronounce the owners name. That is a huge insult to most people.

I think their cost is fair. What the heck the thing is half-rotted. and they are rebuilding it. I have watched all episodes and specials. Kudos to them. Best of all they seem to be having fun rebuilding
a special piece of history. Hats off!

I sort of feel that is about the right money.

The way I look at, you have to balance competing views.

It's not worth much side of the argument:
- If they didn't buy that boat, it might never be repaired, given the amount of TLC required, without them it isn't worth much.
- As everyone knows, there's nothing as expensive as a cheap boat, it needs to be cheap to compensate for the amount of money required to save it.
- It's the sort of boat that is often given away to someone who will appreciate it.
- It's going to be a LONG time before it's usable.
- They'll need all the money they can get to save the boat.

It's valuable side of the argument:
- For a start those engines run, marine engines aren't cheap, they're worth decent money. Not to mention other equipment and parts on board.
- It is historically significant, and rather unique, which makes it worth having/saving.
- That's a lot of boat. It's not small.
- It's a relatively small amount of money in the bigger scheme of things.
- They can make money off the whole exercise by making videos.
- It is rewarding to do.

I want to know how much they actually paid to renovate the boat. If they get donations, materials, free electrical goods etc, they are actually only using their labour to renovate the boat. Now if they decide to sell the boat at a later date, I will guarantee they will 20 times more than what they paid. I do not begrudge that they work hard, however if they had to put their own money into the renovation it would never have happed and they would have been stuck with a lemon..

What is bizarre is not the price of the boat, but all the Ship Happens zealots out there who see the boat sale price question as blasphemy, or as something injurious/slanderous. I’ve watched episodes of Ship Happens. It’s an ugly, rotten, old boat, and I personally see their efforts as a complete waste of time, money, and effort. Why anyone would associate their work with something majestically inspirational, and doing their children a good turn, is bizarre at the least, and delusional at best.

I think it's great Simon and Gemma are taking on this project. Just as I enjoyed "The Western Flyer", "Argonaut", "Tally Ho" and the "Orca" build. I took on a project others have said they've thrown away better, but I enjoyed and learned a lot from a "junkyard" project. Keep up the good work Simon and Gemma!
