Ill get excited for it as a $70 multiplayer game, or give it a try as a free to play game. $40 ill ignore it till its out and see if its the next helldivers...... which is going to be a tough act to follow.

With Marathon, they need to absolutely have a long early access to gauge how the players are feeling about the game and what needs to be reworked.

Greg is spot on. The biggest live service games itw have all existed for a while now, and so they're more well-rounded than ever.

I think selling Marathon for $40 can work. The game needs to have a bloody identity, tho. And, it needs a robust community and player focused marketing cycle.

Honestly, calling Halo, "An abject fucking failure" is kind of ridiculous.

Halo Infinite had an 87 on Metacritic. It has a dedicated player base. Is it the most popular shooter? No. But it's never hard to find a match, even years after release. And it's so much better than it was at launch, in terms of content.

MCC has an even more dedicated base. Between the two of them, there's plenty of people playing Halo daily.

I always find it funny when someone like Greg, who admittedly has no idea what is going on in the shooter space, assumes Halo has simply failed.

Halo Infinites multiplayer is free to play, I will seriously need to be blown away to even consider going from Halo which has flawless gameplay and an abundance of content including forge mode for a £40 game with less content and gameplay that might also not be as great. Sony need to try produce a FTP live service like everyone else in the industry, at least build and audience and fanbase before charging for it

Halo being considered a failure when the last game had over 20 million players and mcc still be one of the top played games on Xbox is weird. You can say the live service aspect was a failure, which they did fix but it’s too late. But I keep seeing people act like halo is a dead franchise when i guarantee when they announce the next game its going to have the same amount of hype as every other halo

$40 is a steal IMO if you get a complete game. That being we have no idea what Bungie plans to do with this franchise considering it used to be singleplayer FPS...now it's a 'Multiplayer Extraction First Person Shooter'....You know this game is going to be LITTERED with Microtransactions and pay to win DLC...It's no wonder why most singleplayer games thrive these days.

Greg just hates Multiplayer and is starting to sound more like these whining people online. Nothing wrong withhaving a diverse portfolio like they did with the ps3 era. They can have good intentions and not be just dollar signs. Games flopping are not cheap so them rushing games for dollar signs is cynical outlook with Ps

Greg mentions that Sony needs to keep making the large scale AAA immersive movie-esque games their known for, but I think that might be what’s killing a lot of the industry right now. These long development cycles coupled with ballooning budgets and the reliance of highly technical/graphical solutions in the chase for realism. I’m not saying Sony can’t or shouldn’t get in their bag of sweeping and sprawling narrative games. But if that’s all their output it’s not healthy at all. If anything they gotta scale back and not rely so much on either the live service model or the big AAA releases and do something akin to the PS2/PS3 era in which smaller, more sustainable but great games were the norm. Easier said than done but Astrobot (as well as Nintendo’s ongoing success this gen) has shown it’s a possibility.

Gamers don't even know what they want and just complain about any and everything nowadays. People were praising helldivers 2 model and now since Concord are saying any online game needs to be f2p? I'd rather just pay $40 and not have to worry about battle passes and rampant cheaters personally. Concord was so fun and played nothing like any of the f2p competitors. It deserved so much better man smh I'm looking forward to Marathon and it is also on all platforms not just playstation.
