why is regal to blame? because we never put the blame on someone else. just an enigmatic agent. someone so special we can't say oh they messed up? i've never heard someone so fiercely protected, but nonetheless why is that regal or goldberg gets the blame? cause we don't blame ghosts

From 98-99. I was with a lot of fans where Goldberg was concerned. My first issue with him was the heat he was catching from the veterans (Everyone's story about Jericho and him), second issue was his first run with the WWE, what made me turn on him was the match with the Fiend,"...don't think I should lose...". I was done with him at that moment but what made me utterly hate him? His spouting off about Bret Hart (who I was never a fan of-personally I always thought his matches were boring at best despite his incredible skills). Goldberg bough this own hype as if he was LITERALLY 173-0 like it was the UFC.

It was the match that needed to happen for Goldberg at that time. Bischoff was pissed because it exposed Goldberg's weaknesses EVERY fan knows that Regal had far too much experience to not find and exploit his opponent's weaknesses.

Love how Eric thought he could get an extra four and a half mins outta Bill who couldn’t wrestle his way out of a wet paper bag. That is what the powerplant was for ya muppet, you don’t do that with his green ass on live tv. He didn’t have the talent to do that on the fly..

I've seen so many videos where Regal is blamed for this mishap but what's dsicussed here feels much closer to the truth. Thank you to Eric for the honesty here. Clearly Bill was barely ready for even a 3 minute match at this time and he shouldn't have been put in that situation.

@BloodandSoil990
@BloodandSoil990 - 23.06.2024 06:55

If anyone is to blame for it, its definitely Eric. Now i am a Goldberg fan through and through. He was the one that got me into professional wrestling but having Bill Goldberg come into the business with only 6 months experience at the power plant was the wrong idea when it comes to truly developing a wrestler. From a business standpoint, i understand because Eric said they were getting beat in the ratings and they needed a miracle and when he came across Goldberg, he felt that Goldberg was the guy to help get their ratings back up.

It takes a longer time than 6 months to get a person ready to become a professional wrestler. Bill was inexperienced at that time and the reason why he was looking so good in his first couple of matches and winning so many fans is because he was only having like 1-2 minute matches where he didnt have to do a whole lot.

Once he got a longer match, i think the pressure got to him because in longer matches, you got alot to remember on what stunts to do. So in my honest opinion, this all falls on Eric.

The thing that has been left out by Eric is that, while he touched on the fact that Steve Regal was from the old school of thought that the heel leads a match.

He DID say that Regal was the more experienced of the two and that he was expected to lead the match, but the problem was that Goldberg was never taught how to FOLLOW a match.

Not Goldberg's fault, not Regal's, thr management's fault.

Basically it was dangerous & completely irresponsible to give Goldberg that big push.

He didnt have the IQ nor the skill set required.

He thought wrestling is REAL 😂

You can tell everytime he speared someone he still thought he was in the NFL & was trying to kill them. He hurt a lot of people , i bet most guys are just taking the high road & deciding not to air him out.

Goldberg has a fragile big man ego. The match was decent if not slightly awkward in some spots. To complain about it for decades shows how insecure Goldberg is. I use to train Judo. when you beat an inexperienced opponent who's a big guy, you can see the moment their ego is crushed.

Arn Anderson just admitted the other day that HE was the unnamed agent. He said he passed on what he was told to, to them. He also took a good part of the blame because he knew Bill really wasn't able to do it but at the same time, he knew Bill needed to have a longer and more competitive match.(especially with a guy like Regal) It was a bad situation all around.

The weirdest thing about this controversy in my opinion is that it's a good match. Not a great match, but it's one of Goldberg's better matches. He's wrestling a tough Brit, an unorthodox style he's never run across before, and to me, the story of the match is him running into something completely and totally foreign, and being surprised by Regal's technique and toughness. As for whose fault it is, how was Goldberg/Regal supposed to be a six minute squash match? Regan and Anderson say they were just following orders, which is probably true, but to me, Regal is 100% innocent. He did his job and preformed a good match. It obviously didn't hurt Goldberg's career, and perhaps if he'd had a few more matches like that at house shows or in practice, he wouldn't have been so green even five years into his career.

So what would Bill Goldberg have done if Regal did shoot in him and defeated him with a submission hold? Bill Goldberg’s streak would have ended right there and then. Period. Eric was at fault and needs to admit it. He didn’t know what he was doing, which led to the demise of WCW. Bischoff rode the coattails of the already proven talent from elsewhere Ted Turner was signing, and he caused it to plummet because he badly mishandled the NWO, which would probably still be a main dominant faction today had he done things correctly.
