I just quit and giving myself time to heal. You are right! I was burned out but jumped into a new job right away. Lo and behold, I was traumatized again.
ОтветитьJust left the place. I can't believe I stayed for two years when the signs were obvious. It's now time for recovery. Thank you I feel so seen with your video.
ОтветитьI don’t trust Glassdoor anymore, I feel Glassdoor posts fake reviews to favor companies.
ОтветитьSadly, I've had several in a row. I have also worked with some amazing companies. Unfortunately, one of them didn't pay a living wage, another one I left because of the hours, and the other two just aren't companies anymore. Ugh, now I feel like I've been knocked down so hard I'm in freeze mode. 😩
ОтветитьWow! I literally just experience this same scenario at my last job. Now, I am left to pick up the pieces and look for another job and start from zero again. I totally agree that there is healing period as my confidence is now on the floor. Great video, thank you!
ОтветитьI take responsibility for not quitting sooner.
ОтветитьTo all the men.. never work with all women! They are petty and malicious!
ОтветитьI was let go from a job like the one described in this video. The manager presented me with an amazing opportunity and a close work environment that was hard to resist. Then I started working there and the masks fell off. They had unrealistic goals of learning and perfecting tasks under three months, which would have been fine if I hadn't been paired with a co-worker who suffered a breakdown everyday. I went in everyday afraid of this woman's reaction, constantly walking on eggshells. I was micro-managed to every inch of my life, and it destroyed my confidence and all enthusiasm and excitement to grow in that office drained with each passing day. My productivity suffered and I admit that I was doing the bare minimum at that point. I had left a job that I loved for this. This other job was similar to this new one, but in that one I was at the top of my game, which is what landed me this nightmare job. As bad as it was to be let go after the 90 day trial period, I see it as a blessing.
ОтветитьThis is similar to an experience that I had. I'll still not sure what happened. 🤣
ОтветитьI had to leave
My chest was hurting from the stress
It was not a healthy environment
No job lined up
No one should trial their health over job!!
I suspect I let myself get poached. I’ll explain. I was a temp apartment concierge on the overnight shift. And my first shift the general manager of the property told me to apply to the company that owned the building. She lived onsite. I did. Long story short … about seven years pass and I was terminated. I suspect it started in 2021 prior to my annual review I tried to negotiate (unsuccessfully) a pay raise. My once stellar reviews were mediocre at best. She even made it so a transfer was off the table. I suspect she and hr teamed up to get me gone. They were two faced. I’m Andrew.
ОтветитьI’m no longer willing to tolerate toxic work environments anymore. Once you become seasoned in the workforce you can spot it pretty much right away.
ОтветитьI was in many toxic workplaces. I was bullied by my boss and her favourite. I had staff meeting afterwork every week to gossip about me. I took 22 years off to raise my family and also had a hip replacement. I managed to ask for a job at my current workplace. I fear I'm in another toxic workplace, been there since May last year. We have lost 10 people since I started including the Director! The new Director lied to me about a promotion, saying there is no role but told the staff as a whole the next night at the staff meeting that the 2IC is in that role "until we find someone". There was no discussion regarding my career progression. Yet the day after the meeting I was asked to relieve for someone in that promotional role for two weeks. There won't be anything behind it but it will show the new Director what I'm capable of. We had a visiting manager from under the company umbrella and she saw me working on the floor (I work in Early childhood education and care) running the nursery. She was so impressed, she rang the area manager and the new Director who was training and the response from the new Director was "That's random." When I was first in this field, there was no such thing as a room leader, educational leader etc. You were all those things with your qualification. So even though I was away from the field for 22 years to raise my family, stepping into this "promotional" role is just doing what I was trained to do. There is no policy with regards to applying for promotions. When I had my first appraisal, I spoke with the big bosses and they were so impressed with me after being there for 2 months that they wanted to promote me. I had scheduling issues which I have been working to eradicate (I'm a parent of a child who catches the school bus and I live in a rural area). I'm updating my resume and starting to look around because even though I live in a rural area, I spend my life in the car so travel is natural. I love working with children and I love providing stimulating activities for them to participate in that aligns with their interests and are play based.
ОтветитьPractically every job I've had in the last 10 years has been toxic😅, how is it you'll only have had one bad job?
ОтветитьMy company filled up with psychopaths and narcissists. I stayed for 17 years. I had difficulty recognizing what was happening because my abusive upbringing normalized psychopaths. I had an epiphany in the early 2020s when I was working from home in solitude. I realized they knew all along. How people producing failing work product keep succeeding. I realized they designed a team game with a series of complex instructions that were given to us verbally very quickly. Everyone said that they understood very quickly. The game started and I had no clue what was going on but all my coworkers knew very well. They then started shaming me like come on how come you don’t understand this. You have to realize I know I’m smarter than most of my coworkers. I knew then and there when they taunting me that it was a planned manipulation. This devaluation pattern repeated over and over in several ways. The better I did and the more I achieved the worst my performance was reported. I became a study of narcisism, psychopathy, body language reads, case studies of exceptional performances proving to be exceptional frauds, I learned statistically my level of intelligence is actually very rare, etc. I realized the oppression was planned meticulously. They were spending money and time keeping down so they could extract from me and claim my intellect as their own. But not just for that reason because keeping me overwhelmed kept me from having the resources to see more deeply what was really happening. My last stage of no contact from an abusive upbringing was to escape an organization that manufactured a cult of narcissists and psychopaths. To be clear what happened is much worse than psychological manipulation but if I make claims of stalking and violence and other numerous things my post will get deleted. I hate my former employer they are revolting. My parents got me my job. My Dad I believe is a power and control psychopath. (I don’t have the gene it comes from the mother). In the modern world they know what they are. In my company they were colluding with each other to extract supply from victims (I believe).
ОтветитьOne thing I've learned is to simply not trust what you are told. Talk is cheap. They can say whatever they want, true or not.
ОтветитьI got terminated from a toxic job for making my voice heard on the subject of extreme isolation I was placed in. From there they only made those feeling more intense for me. after I had come back from Xmas break I was pulled into the office and signed some things, and then they showed me the door. The day I got let go, they treated me like someone they’re meeting for the first time, and I’ve been there almost 5 years. I was let go for something that I had no control over, and I was punished for it. Whoever has my position next is going to be fighting a losing battle
ОтветитьYes this is true- it's a nightmare and it affected me for 6 years!
ОтветитьI work for a well known company this happened to me!
ОтветитьOh, I worked for a toxic workplace...
ОтветитьWhen you feel the confidence coming from your boss and coworkers, it inspires you to do better work.
Toxic workplace bosses, managers, coworkers: "The b3atings will continue until morale improves. Compensation motivation? Yes, take the b3ating or loose all of your compensation permanently. Gratitude from management for work being done? what's that all about? why should they be praised for doing what was expected of them?"
Willing to bet that hiring manager never spoke to the higher ups to make sure the lack of experience in key areas was ok and just needed to get someone in that spot
ОтветитьThis happens 3x more when you’re a woman
ОтветитьThis is my Current. I am one of the Top Performers. They keep me around so they can Piggy Back Ideas from me. They praise others that do 1/8th that others Do. Only the Brown Nosers get praise or the People that let themselves get taken advantage of.
ОтветитьI have a toxic boss. I hate it. He treats those who do bad GOOD, gives them a raise and I've had so ask not once, twice, three but this week now a FOURTH TIME about my pay increase. I've been in this position for 15 months and make the same $$ I've to get out of here and on my days off I've been pounding the keyboard just applying everywhere. I just want to get out of this dump. I was to have an increase at the 6 month mark, then a year mark and NADA, nothing, zilch.
ОтветитьExact thing is happening to me. 10 weeks of training with this new company, and I passed all exams - I even had other trainees come to ME for help. Well, suddenly I had the trainer pull me aside and threaten my job position because I didn't get something right. Never done coding before, but yet, I passed all my coding exams. Not only that, but this trainer threatened the whole team "if you don't do your job right, you'll lose it!". THIS DURING TRAINING! I'm already looking for another job position as I see SO MANY RED FLAGS. I also noticed the same job position posted AGAIN after only a few weeks in to training. Meaning they are most likely losing more than they are keeping.
What a nightmare ....I've learned not to ask this trainer questions as she just tries to make you feel incompetent. Being afraid to ask a Trainer questions?....this is a BIG RED FLAG. Time to get out, ASAP. This is a company that is Business Process Outsourcing and after these Red Flags, I immediately asked for a transfer from HR. I know HR puts company and management ahead of employees, but I feel it's worth the risk. If I can't get into another department, I'll simply try to find something else with another company.
I had a job I desperately needed to get out of. At the 9 month mark I interviewed with another company. The hiring manager said, "You just started your job. Why are you looking to leave? Why can't you get along with everyone? What is wrong with you?" When he asked what's wrong with me I knew I had to stay in my job for at least 3 years to show I COULD get along with everyone. But it was bad. The next day when I walked back in the building I knew that the only way I'd be able to handle the abuse would be to come in as an investigator hellbent to figure it out how to fix it and turn it around. I've written a book on it all. I left with 2 letters of recommendation and what it took to turn it around and understand it all was quite interesting. The book is called "Blood, Sweat & Tears, Inc." by J Hughes. It's available on Amazon.
ОтветитьDo what I do, get a small part time job at the weekend and use that for references etc. If you've left a toxic environment on bad terms because of a horrible boss ( they'll always give you a bad reference even if you left on good terms) you can then use the other reference. It's better to flip burgers and be happier than being in a horrible poisonous corporate environment.
ОтветитьI seem to be going from toxic workplace to toxic workplace. I'm slowly losing hope.
ОтветитьThe story you told is EXACTLY what I’m going through. Small role to big role. I needed time to grow but they are not patient enough and have way to high expectations like as if I could become an executive over night just cos my job title changed. Zero training, zero handover, minimal resources, minimal support. Just six weeks into the role, plenty of pressure from a highly delusional and poor manager. They’re making me hate my chosen career and I don’t even want to work anymore but it’s just cos I’m in a bad company.
ОтветитьI have been working as a dietary aide at Encompass Health Rehabilitation in Ocala, Florida, for two and a half years, and many of the issues you mentioned resonate with my experience. I have developed anxiety and depression, often feeling second-guessed, inadequate, and lacking confidence. My boss and coworkers have also targeted me, usually blaming me for their mistakes.
I interviewed for a new job on Halloween at Phoenix House, and the person who interviewed me had an exceptional ability to read people and recognized my potential. I accepted the job offer with a pay increase of a few dollars more than my current salary.
I gave my notice the day after Election Day, and my last day in this toxic work environment will be November 22, 2024. I understand that it will take time to heal from my negative experiences. I remind myself that "enough is enough" and reclaiming my authority is time. I no longer question my worth or doubt my potential. Great video!
wow it sounds like your friend was gaslighted by a bunch of antisocial dickheads at the start up!
ОтветитьI also decades ago made the big mistake of staying at a highly toxic workplace because ...oh the pay was oh so good, the corporation was so renowned and will be looking good on my business card and later on on my resume, the corporation and my job had a "glam factor", basically a "dream job" and industry from the outside, etcetc ....but it truly destroyed, or at least heavily impaired my confidence in my work quality and in myself as a person, something which I only realized much later when I had started working at my NEXT job in another company and TRUSTED no one anymore no matter how much they praised my work, I never regained my old confidende again in hindsight....So never STAY, just run if your workplace is toxic!
ОтветитьDid that guy work at Apple where he was asked to move from SCV to SD?
ОтветитьI would say most of my jobs have been like this unfortunately.
ОтветитьToxic workplace = toxic relationship. Leaving that place was the equivalent to breaking up with a bad boyfriend, it took away my trust and a lot of work to get over it. At my new employment, I was always waiting for the bomb to drop.
ОтветитьWorst thing about being in a Toxic Workplace is Asshole Poisoning. That's when you find yourself surrounded by so much negativity you start to become an asshole yourself in self-defence. That's a sure sign you need to get out immediately.
ОтветитьI’ve done it. Just move on and don’t look back. Learn from the experience, invest in yourself, turn the page
ОтветитьThis is exactly what happened to me, which is why I resigned and found a much better job with a great manager and company culture.
ОтветитьSOS please help me.. a colleague is accusing me and making a big problem involving hr about the fact that I requested to be part of her meeting, because it was necessary to do my work, and when she rejected I cc-ed my line manager and her line manager. Is there anything wrong about “insisting” to be part of a meeting? When my LM suggested that she would just send me minutes, I accepted it. What is wrong in insisting to be part of a meeting? I only requested in a polite way and explained my reasons for it. Can it be interpreted in her favour?
ОтветитьThis happened with my first mech E job right out of college and is why I am currently job searching 🫡
ОтветитьI was in such a toxic work situation that someone with a state agency & someone who works at a clinic that specializes in depression recommended lawyers, but I can't get a lawyer to actually help me. More than one employee at that clinic said that they get a lot of business from employees of this company & the person with the state agency said she has heard "a lot more bad than good" about the company.
ОтветитьI was in a job that got so bad I had to ask my dr if I had a stroke because all of a sudden I was stuttering every sentence even in my personal life. Turns out my self esteem and self worth got so bad that I was over questioning every sentence so bad that I was stuttering over myself.
ОтветитьThe story really spoke to me
Ответить2.5 years lol
ОтветитьMy toxic work perps have been smokers, druggies, alcoholics, mentally ill and or personality disordered. Healthy individuals and toxic ones are like oil and water, they don't mix.🧐
ОтветитьLeft a job after 20yrs it was a larger pharmacy company. Went to a small family owned business that was supposes to be more relaxed, yeah people sitting around texting watching videos doing nothing while i wasn't being shown the full job i was hired for. So left lack of respect.
