Now we do need to have a GP's approval to see a specialist; not all of them but most of them. Ophtalmology and psychatry are not concerned I believe

France does not provide health coverage to citizens but to residents. You get coverage by being legally employed as a foreign resident for instance, even if you're from outside of the EU.

Middlemen companies are own by larger Pharma. They were originally help negotiate prices for normal consumers but now they only help the Corrupt pharma.

The USA is a country that has no regard for it's own citizens well being. All other developed countries have solved the problem of healthcare.

What can the United States learn from the French system? NOTHING! When you think you have all the answers, you can't learn even when it hits you in the face.

So 70% of income goes straight to fund the healthcare system. No wonder French are always angry at the Americans.

You forgot one very important point : in France there's an official list of long-term diseaes (cancer, diabetis, heart diseases, etc...), called ALD (affection longue durée) for which everybody is 100% covered free. That means it's totally impossible to get broke because of thoses diseases.
And an important precision : everybody can easily afford the private insurance covering the 20/30 % at your charge for minor diseases. (called mutuelles). And finally, a lot of private doctors and private hospitals (called cliniques) don't charge higher fees than the public system.

Elon Musk with others will find a solution to health care through AI in the not too far future.

I found this very interesting. My relatives are from Germany and visiting the U.S. right now and they don't get why there's a problem is here. Also, it doesn't just need to be for everyone, it also needs to be 'affordable'. Without that what benefit is there in having it?

My mother had Multiple Sclerosis. In France, Social Security provided 100% coverage for all my mother's care and treatments until her death. Also, she had various aid and additional resources (MDPH / CDAPH / MDA).

Last I looked, the U.S. was ranked 37th by World Health Organization, on health care. Yet for years I have had to argue with people here (U.S.) who persist in saying "American health care is the best in the world!" Same people, with NOTHING to substantiate their claims say "But they pay 85% in taxes in those other places!" Both statements are crap, and I try to stay off the subject now. But when an INSURANCE COMPANY representative, not a doctor, determines what care who can have, something is wrong. I don't know if the system is ever going to change as long as big money is involved. I don't know how we could stage a health care revolt, maybe that would do it.

It would be sensible, so it seems, to learn from other countries and adopt the best system. Seems insurance companies would poke their money making noses in and want to keep profit making ways. The interest of the patient is secondary.

There are a lot of inaccuracies and misleading statements on the way the French health care system works. Yet, the main argument remains - the US are sticking to an incredibly inefficient HC system, and have a lot to learn with France and the rest of the world. I would also direct US people to look at the UK's and Portugal's HC, which is literally completely open and state covered (and no, that's not cOmUnIsM...that's just intelligent HC design to cover the needs of societies)

No one deserves healthcare. It is a privlege, not a right. If you are dumb, stupid, poor, and uneducated with a loser job, what makes you think you deserve anything more than minimum wage? How about get back to work or find a better job that provides insurance. Or better yet be an adult and save your money to afford healthcare. A few points forgotten, if you are an employee in France, your company has to provide you with the voluntary private insurance and will pay most of the costs. If you have a very serious disease (like cancer, there is an official list), you are 100% covered by the social security. The same if you are poor, the "voluntary private insurance" is provided by the social security and you don't pay at the point of contact.

Yeah I just got billed 700 bucks with insurance for a single visit that comprised of solely talking to people. No labs. No vital signs. Just talking. I was billed as though they were two separate visits because I talked to two different providers.

French before the pandemic was great but now they are burnt out, staff shortage and my friend and was is in their University teaching hospital in Poitiers and was dangerous, short staffed and treated horrible. She was in danger. Iit is not an issue of payment link he we have in America but her GP who coordinated the needed surgery acted like it was no big deal when it was life threatening. Scary.
