You ever think about how the plot of this game is that a scientist pisses off the local ecosystem so much that a wild animal gains sentience just so it can hyjack his car and maul him to death?

I'm so glad that someone else has played this game. I don't know why, but I love it. I was the kind of kid (and sorta still am today) who wanted to befriend everyone and everything, so I would always befriend creatures when I could. Even if it was kind of tedious. Baysee was my favourite planet, thanks to its storyline of restoring the land. I remember as a kid, I was really disappointed when I cured all the nests on Zencrie and it didn't restore the planet like it did on Baysee.

Also, I learnt the hard way that failing to save Flubit is PERMANANT and not something you get a second chance at. Trauma.

Love the thumbnail!

This was my way of playing Spore for the longest while until the other spin off released for the DS haha, what I find really interesting about this game is that every part in it was made for it, so while you don't have the exact freedom you would have as the PC game's editor you certainly make a pretty interesting creature!

The arts and craft looking artstyle is also super unique, I adore it

I loved this game back when I first got it as a kid. I remember mastering the dance mini game and the Glob-lob rock throw, I played it so much. I love it's art style, and how creative the game was with its creature design, which is fitting (the Bubleebus were my favorite). The game still holds a special place in my heart, even after all these years.

I bought this game with my hard-earned pocket money i had saved for months. But in my tiny childlike HUBRIS i believed the DS was capable of just running the full version of Spore
So when i booted this up expecting the Universe and instead got the literal cardboard cutout version I was furious
But by god by the end of it the game had totally won me over with its cute designs and customization.
Its nothing groundbreaking, but this game will always have a special place in my heart. In particular for teaching me the word Metabolism

Something I always did when I was a kid was get Sporelings from the defeated species and bring them back and befriend them. That way the ecological catastrophe I caused is undone, AND the different species can live in peace!
I never had much trouble with the Dancing, benefits of ADHD! XD

This game has a lot of little secrets too. For example, when trying to save planet Flubit, all of the creatures on the planet are freaking out because the planet is about to explode, and so they become hostile. Normally, you're meant to avoid them, but if you instead choose to kill a bunch of them while still managing to save the planet, you get a secret ending where your character kills a bunch of creatures in a cutscene before flying off of the planet, with bones and skulls littering the landscape.

This was one of my DS first games I have played and I have a soft spot for it. Trying to befriend a creature that is highly aggressive and getting all its parts is a very tedious yet rewarding experience. My main problem with the game is how short it is. Only 5 planets in the main story and unlike the first or second planet, there are no new areas for the rest of the planets. I would definitely like to see the game expanded upon because I think there is a lot of potential.

Also, the fact that Gar'Skuther can ROAST you to death can't be overstated. How many other fictional characters can do that? XD

I have to admit that the game is built to be 100%ed. The big thing is going back through the planets and seeing what you can find. Turns out that each map has an extinct species that you can try to assemble yourself in the creature creator. If you turn on the right cheats, you can even see how those extinct creatures were meant to originally look. Another thing it had was wifi connection that would download other people's creatures into your worlds and they could be interacted with like any other. Some of the official Maxis developers even made a creature or two.
Also, I have no idea why a game this small has such bad performance issues.

I was deeply into the Spore franchise when I was a tweenager. I had the original game, this game, Spore Hero, and Spore Hero Arena. It's a genuine shame that the franchise is basically dead in EA's eyes, because I honestly think the spinoff games were fantastic in their own ways. You should give the original game and its DLCs a shot sometime; Galactic Adventures must've entertained me for months on its own.

To focus on Creatures, though, honestly I don't recall having nearly as much trouble as a kid as you seemed to, here. I do remember struggling at some points but for the life of me I can't recall where. Maybe the final face-off with Gar'Skuther, but I think that's warranted, given he's the final boss and all. Speaking of Gar'Skuther, man, what a design! I always wished I could've made it in the original Spore game, but alas, we never got that tentacle-mouth.

By the way, you didn't mention it so you may not be aware, but there's actually an easter egg on Flubit. One of the edible mushrooms lying around make your creature grow bigger. I think it also affects your stats in some way, too, but I might just be misremembering.

This was also my introduction to Spore somehow. I think I got it as a random Christmas gift from my parents. One of the weirdest things I still have nostalgia over. Probably cuz I was a nerd and still love speculative evolution to this day.

In fact, I still need to try the "real" spore games. I'd probably love them.
