The war between Russia and Ukraine has unleashed a "new barbarism" that threatens the foundations of global civilization established after World War II. Russia is exploiting democratic values and institutions to undermine democracy and liberalism not only in Ukraine but also worldwide. The global system for protecting peace and human rights has crumbled under Russian attacks. The destruction of peaceful coexistence is not limited to Ukraine and can happen in any European country.
