Kitchen mixer exchange. The next day.

Had a leak, more of a weep, from mains water into that mixer tap overnight. I knew it was there and thought maybe not butt-up to tap or ptfe tape not low enough. So I was prepared just to re-do it. But in the getting ready stage I noticed a washer atop the mains pipe that I never knew existed. I removed it gingerly and saw its mashed-up state.

Looking in my plumbers bits I noticed I had two packs of unopened washers and found one that looked the part. One of those adjustments you kind of know its going to work. Rags just in case but really it should work. And it did.
