I feel like when brands add a swirl of color eyeshadow in a palette its just to add visual interest... It makes my weird little brain suspicious that it must not be a great magical thing if you had to add something that strictly just there to make it look interesting. Don't get me wrong I still want that Natasha Deanna palette but it makes me think deeper than I usually would about that feeling of wanting the thing.

Agree with you about Lisa Eldridge products. I've been enticed by a number of items, but when I try them on me (pale skin, redhead, quite pigmented lips) they look very different and I end up disappointed. For the price (especially once converted to Australian dollars) I now just admire from afar, but won't be spending on them.

It is so funny how much undertones (and preferences) affect colour perception!! I am also very pale but veeery cool-toned, and I looked at all those Lisa Eldridge lipsticks and immediately knew they would pull very brown or orange on me and make me look unwell!

The glossier lip balm are horrible. These two new scents are so strong and sweet… I wouldn’t…

i dont see any point in putting out lipsticks in the same boring usual range of lipsticks - only to buy from a citrine brand.

The Tarte Marakuja Juicy Lip Plump in Tulip was absolutely worth the price for me personally. I do not spend a lot on higher ticket prices but will if I do believe it is worth it and will outperform other options. When I tested it in store I tested a redish color and was very impressed at the long lasting minty and pain free plump as well as the thick, well adhering shine that also out lasts any gloss. By the time I went to buy it they didn't have any shade I wanted and 6 months later decided on a darker pink color based solely on the fact they didn't have the reds and I had light pinks I was wearing already. I actually found the color to be extremely flatterng and wearable and although pink-was not a pink I have had before nor replicated since. I scraped every last bit out!!!!! Also got it for 18bucks on sale. I tried the elf pout clout. Liked it but it is not the same. It doesn't last as long. Doesn't have the shades which actually to me were more nuanced or original in comparison to the elf selection where the light brown leaned orange and the pink was kind of milky pink.
These new releases look so juicy I will try them and I hope they have the staying power of the others which most oils do not have.
I think any of the Marakuja juicy line is a safe bet!

Hi Hannah, I’ve been following your quest to find a Gone Greige dupe with great interest and I think I might have found something. I have a similar pale neutral skin tone (all your shade recommendations work perfectly for me) and have similar lipstick colour preferences. I’ve found the Kiko Smart Fusion lipstick (black square packaging) in 436 Cold Brown looks very similar, but with a slightly sheerer formula like the Glossier Ultralips. I’m wondering if it could be a good match?? ❤

I love your take on the rabanne highlighter. I totally agree. It makes me feel the way I felt when I was a child, imagining what it was like to be a grown up lady with Real Makeup.

I completely agree with you on the Guerlain advent calendar and all advent calendars, but I will say I think the point of them is to gift rather than to buy for oneself. As a gifter, a lot of people want to give something without necessarily knowing personal preferences, and often to be a bit flashy while doing it. And I guess as a gift receiver, I might be more open to a little taste of everything that I would never buy for myself. But I still think most of it would go to waste. I'd PERSONALLY be more impressed if someone bought me exactly the bottle of perfume I'd been lusting after rather than an impersonal grab bag, but some people are probably just be impressed by the price tag I suppose.

The $750 advent calendar gives McDonalds happy meal toy vibes.

There's something off about Lisa Eldridge product undertones

Lisa Eldrige has never made me want to rush out and buy the products. They're beautiful from an aesthetic point. I also don't purchase any adveny calendars because I'm aware of the marketing. It's a complete gimmick.

I don't actually know, who buys those expensive advent calendars. But I'm guessing rich people buy them as a surprise for their partners, kids or friends. The kind of rich, to whom 750 $ is nothing.

I love Lisa’s new lipsticks, but agree that lip color doesn’t transfer to all skin tones. I have picked up several, and the packaging is amazing and the refills are all aluminum, and the colors are gorgeous. I hope she expands the range as well- maybe we will get dragon one day!!! It’s really a case of going back to makeup’s roots, before plastic and magnets took over. For full disclosure, a color like A Royal Scandal makes me look like I’m dead; which is a look, but not one I’m looking for, especially for work!! 😂 for my zombie Halloween costume, it’s a yes!! ❤

The new LE lipsticks are much cooler than past releases. Medici, Romy and Ashes of Roses (the warmest of these three) might work for you! Her "neutral" colors are always too orange for me but I liked these three.

Your explanation about the "problem" with Lisa Eldridge's colors helped me understand why I struggle to appreciate her products. I have the same issue : I'm pale and desaturated, so even the palest neutral pink in her range looks almost orange on me :(

I feel like one of the head designers for the characters consulted with one of the lead designers or like the aesthetics of the characters actual like…. ok I’m gonna go do some digging BUT my point is I am reasonably confident that there was a connection with Fenty and the characters visuals and that it isn’t just a coool collab of appreciation of one another for the sake of selling like they are legit connected

Ok yes! Priscilla Ono, a global makeup artist for Fenty, worked on season two. I feel like the connection is deeper than that tho, because it was a healthy contributing factor to my interest in season one.

Re: lipsticks, I always thought that you should try melt cosmetics! The colors are lovely, you might not like the formula though. People often find them too stiff, I believe 😅

Yk i hadn’t noticed how much you’ve affected my lipstick opinions until that lisa eldridge lipstick conversation, I think im also a pale olive, and I also keep buying neutral—looking lipsticks online and then just hating their rosy-nude realities when they arrive and you honestly made me realize that I wouldn’t really like the new lisa eldridge lipsticks in my real human life!

I feel like Patrick Ta pretty consistently rolls out magenta for his holiday releases, or at least in the past few years he has. If there was an emerald green I would be veritably drooling over the duos, but as it is I'm only a little tempted by the taupe-y duo you ended up trying out.

Don't you think holiday beauty advent calendars are meant to appeal mainly to gift-givers? People who don't really know what would suit the giftee, or what the giftee would like best, but who still want to show that they Made An Effort and Spent Some Serious Money. I'm sure that's the real target market for beauty advent calendars.

Have you checked out Necromancy Cosmetica? A huge chunk of their colors, including their "universal brown," have come out grey or taupe on me.

The Patricia Ta products are overrated and overpriced. Their quality is decent, but not exceptional—certainly not high-end. Additionally, many people have reported mold growth in his eyeshadows, and he hasn't addressed any of these concerns. Be cautious when using his products.
