ОтветитьWhat about Mr. FOMOsapien 😂 lol
ОтветитьWow thanks for taking the time to make this video it's so informative Purdue collectors to know who's an investor and who to Speculator 2 overall I think this was a well-made video thank you so much👍
ОтветитьAwesome work mate
ОтветитьLmao so true I got a ton of crap cause I posted on Facebook that my wife bought me two of the Wal-Mart variant of venom 25 I'm not selling but I love the cover and maybe some say I will have to but all I heard was how I was what's wrong with collecting . I'm like ok if you think so lol
ОтветитьI think there are many types of Speculators and Investors. Here are some examples:
Speculator #1 Hears a rumour about a comic and buys multiple copies with the hope that it will rise quickly and they can make a quick profit.
Speculator #2 See's an older book that people claim is undervalued so they look for and purchase low priced copies in the hope that when they do start to go up they can cash out.
Speculator #3 Drops a large amount of cash on a proven book with the intent of selling it within 2 years at a sizable profit.
Investor #1 Studies the market and purchases books based on past proven performance with the goal to sell them in 5 to 10 years for a profit. They will be willing to pay below or at CMV.
Investor #2 Purchases a book that is proven over time to increase in value, but is less worried about paying over CMV as they are planning for long term profits.
In the case of the speculator they react more to hype in order to turn a profit, the Investor relies more heavily on past performance.
Investor who lightly speculates ha try to buy a high grade giant sized X-Men 1 and a few key ASM classics
ОтветитьIf I only collected comics for the art and story then would that make me a "true believer"? Love of the art form means I won't be selling my collection unless I really need to but speculating and investing has its place.
ОтветитьI'm glad you're covering this. For some time I've been confused on what speculation really is.
ОтветитьExcellent work Chris! I love these kinds of "inside baseball" videos where we dig down deep into the psychology and philosophies of collecting. I'm right with you in that I'm all three types of collector and probably a couple of other subsets as well. At first I was a bit surprised that you are even having to talk about this. My initial reaction was, is this even a thing? Are dudes really out there busting people's balls over how they collect and enjoy the hobby? After thinking about it though, I guess they are (I tend to kinda tune out that stuff). There does seem to be a certain element out there of "What...Are you stupid?" type people who just can't live without sharing their hot takes. The anti-slabbers jump to mind besides the "speculators bad" group. Maybe it's just me but anytime I hear or read somebody telling another collector that they're "doing it wrong," I always hear it as The Simpsons' Comic Book Guy in my head.
ОтветитьWat up J, quick shout out and hope al is good
Off the subject question... does CGC grade on popularity and price guide to grade on comics. I'll explain. Let's say a comic thats price at high dollar get looked over finer than lower price comic= ASM#101 against ASM#400
Thanks brah
Long Term Investment. It's the way to go. Probable long term returns: Amazing Spider-Man 300. Mid grade and higher. If you can invest for 25 years, the return in profit is probable. Potentially quite high. A lot of early moderns and bronze age comics, which are very cheap, are getting to the point where some collectors are now absorbing these comics, whose print runs and extant copies are looking smaller now, so they are suitable for LTI (Long Term Investment). If you are under 50 years of age, LTI is viable. After 50 years of age, you might not live long enough to really get satisfaction on the investment. Speculation, if that is your thing, then becomes all that is worth bothering with much. But, of course, if you buy what you like and like what you buy, there isn't really a risk anyway.
