About the Work:

We cherish the age-old history of Jiangnan, admire the blue hills and green waters of the region. We carry on the cultural inheritance of Jiangnan and take great pride in Jiangnan culture, a lustrous pearl in Chinese civilization!

Under the commission of the orchestra, the composer wrote this multi-movement symphonic suite from August 2021 to July 2023. Employing the technique of narrative symphonic picture, the composer seamlessly weaves together five thematic movements, each infused with regional elements of Jiangnan, and links the five relatively independent movements into a coherent whole. With the aim of pursuing a harmonious fusion of novelty, unique regional characteristics, listenability and innovativeness, the composer integrates such art forms as Kunqu opera, pingtan, guqin and bianzhong with the Chinese orchestra, portraying the resplendent beauty of Jiangnan with the symphony of sizhu.
