I miss newspapers! Not only were they good for getting the news/weather in print but were handy for wrapping up garbage before ditching it into the trash can, also good for making book covers for those who loved to read books instead of spending money on the electricity for Internet and Cable! I keep a dictionary handy and my Bible which are also made of paper and have had them for years! Mankind is NOT capable of saving or helping the planet or climate change! DON'T BE DECEIVED!
ОтветитьCorrelation is not causation. Clutter could cause higher cortisol, higher cortisol could cause clutter behavior, or another variable(s) could be at play in why we see a relationship between cortisol and clutter. The clutter could also just be perceived…maybe people with more cortisol view their homes as more cluttered than those that have lower cortisol. Science is fun. 🤩
ОтветитьWith the internet, who buys magazines?
ОтветитьI love that you are teaching people that clutter and guilt thoughts can cause a huge amount of stress in people’s lives! Great tips on this video, plus you have such a pretty face with those big beautiful blue eyes of your are mesmerizing! Bravo! 😉
ОтветитьIf I looked 24 years younger I would be younger than my Granddaughters 😅
ОтветитьI enjoyed this video! Could you do a video about hair and body products. I tend to have to many shampoos and body washes and lotions.
ОтветитьI have 2 sets of sheets for each bed, and I change the sheets and put the clean ones right on. I wash the ones I took off and put them in the blanket chest at the bottom of the bed for the next week when I change the bed again. I never wash and put back on. It just gets too late sometimes, and I run out of steam till evening comes.
ОтветитьSo true about the subscription boxes.
ОтветитьI only buy clothes at goodwill. Many times they still have the original tags on them. I don’t even try them on. If they don’t fit I re-donate them. I don’t buy anything new except underwear.
ОтветитьWe downsized 5 years ago. Like others, we thought we did a great job…until we moved in. So every summer, I go through my entire home and get rid of anything I haven’t used in a year. This fall we are going through our loft in the garage and getting rid of decorations we have not used. We no longer host family gatherings so do not feel the need to decorate for every season. Our grandchildren are teens. We are keeping a few toys for when children, like younger nieces and nephews, visit.
ОтветитьTo draw on past experiences indeed helps a lot. Thank you for sharing your insights. ❤
ОтветитьHi, I want to throw away the rug outside the bathroom too. But, we need rug to our feet. How you overcome this problem?
ОтветитьLove you posts!
ОтветитьPersonally, I have two sheet sets for the bed, so one is on while the other is being washed. Works better for me that way.
EDIT: My one thing about used clothing is that I draw the line at anything that touches intimate parts of the body such as underwear and swimwear -- those MUST be new.
Also, I think it's a mistake to lump all clearance items in the category of "will not stand the test of time." Clearance simply means they are almost out of the item or they're discontinuing it. So it's the same quality as it would have been if you had bought it at full price. Same with "cheap shoes." There's nothing wrong with saving money.
I have to laugh at the part about noisy toys.
My uncle had his kids before my dad had his own. When my cousins were young, my dad gave them as many noise making toys as he could. When my dad’s kids came along, my uncle returned the favor, but it was magnified by the technology changes over time. My mom was less than thrilled. I have been told this story numerous times over the years and don’t give noisy toys to anyone unless it is a specific request with parental approval.
As for gifts, we usually do gift cards or experiences unless there is a specific request. We also are in the process of giving a particular book series to my two nephews to share. It is a series that we have had for years, and their mom wanted them to read. When my mom mentioned we have it, we decided to send it to them a book or two at a time for each birthday and Christmas. They look forward to it and enjoy it immensely.
I agree with so many of these!!!
ОтветитьNot doing crafts because they are messy makes me sad. Computers, screens, digital things aren't messy but "doing things" is often quite messy. I know that minimalists are often against craft messes, but I've seen men minimalists invest in the latest and greatest computers/sound systems, cameras, etc. Sigh.
ОтветитьDo you think that emphasizing "experiences" is just another way to increase nonphysical things?. Solomon in the book of Ecclesaistes had everything - had been everywhere and done just about everything and still wasn't fulfilled. I know it is popular to promote experiences instead of stuff, but I wonder the basic premise is the same - collecting experiences - for the sake of collecting experiences etc. Just thinking out loud here....I didn't hear you exactly promote experiences, but it can drive people bonkers as well. Being too busy is just as bad as having so much stuff you can't move. Contentment is what we should all be striving for.
ОтветитьMaking the switch to glass was easy for me. Granted, I live alone now but a lot of times I grab a soup bowl from my everyday dinnerware for leftovers etc and flip a salad plate over it to use as a cover. Saves plastic wrap and I found it keeps odors from things like hard boiled eggs contained better.
ОтветитьLove the shoes - what are they?
ОтветитьTHANK YOU
ОтветитьIn reference to magazines, I haven’t bought magazines in decades. When I was a teenager I used to buy several: Glamour, Good Housekeeping, MCalls, etc, and my mother would tell what a waste of money it was. Eventually, I did quit buying them. Then I started scrapbooks. Thank goodness for Pinterest!!!
ОтветитьNo birthday gifts for your own kids seems a bit extreme!
ОтветитьI like your channel, i think you are one of the most reasonable 'minimal' creators out there. I am not aspiring to be a minimal, not to the level of what this word mean, but i am really into the path to become a concious person in every way i can. I am taking my time and not rushing anything because i also don't wanna impulse throw away loads of things that i bought for a reason only to buy it again after decluttering ;)
ОтветитьLove those tan colored sandals…can you add a link or list brand? 🥰
ОтветитьI am 58. . . Your words are 100% spot on. I had a nerve growth between my 3rd and 4th toe at age 24. After surgery I gave up on any other type of shoe except well made tennis shoes. I pay big bucks ($100) for a pair and wear them till they die😂.
ОтветитьYou should do a video on kids toys/gifts and Christmas, what do you do for present and stockings?
ОтветитьThe Readly app is great for keeping up on magazines without the clutter of the actual magazine. I love it and the price isn’t bad either, in fact it’s less than one copy of some of the super popular mags.
ОтветитьOMG, you gave away your Vitamix!! What a useful, very expensive power horse. Wish I lived near you when you gave that away. For margaritas alone, it would have been worth keeping, I feel sick😢
ОтветитьVery sensible ideas.
ОтветитьI guess I've been living frugal for a long time! Even it hasn't been a trend in the past... I never have any credit card, always buy things cash! And I'm sure I won't need any of it in the future, especially now it's been easier to buy things only with our bank account!! 😊
ОтветитьI like seeing a young person and their family living within their means. And I have really enjoyed this video for the most part. But it would really be nice if you slowed down. Plus the pictures go by so fast you don't have time to take in what you're saying and what you're showing. Please slow down I have been told I'm a fast talker but you truly have me be!
But again I admire what your videos are about and how you and your family live.
Yes, the money guilt! I spent all this money I can't get rid of it. I'm going through that right now. 😢
ОтветитьGreat advice: less clutter and impulse buying leads to less stress, less guilt and more overall more mental health.
ОтветитьI was a minimalist, before it became a "thing". People would visit and say " did you just move in".😂
ОтветитьThank you for not doing a long drawn out introduction - that was a minimalist action right there
ОтветитьReuse,repurpose,recycle. Donate.
ОтветитьWhat brand of sandals were those?
ОтветитьI like those nude shoes u r wearing. Where r they from?
ОтветитьI'm not sure how I came to your channel but I think it could be helpful to me. I'm going to star with my coffee cups (I have a lot) and see what happens. I've just subscribed so I'll go back in time and watch to your earlier videos. Thanks for the video I didn't know I needed. It's got me thinking.
ОтветитьI try not to buy single purpose anything. It needs to do at least a couple of things for me to want to purchase
ОтветитьSounds like you should stop watching influencers! 😂 They seem to have had a lot of effect on the things you previously purchased.
ОтветитьIt's easy to avoid being pushed by "influencers." Don't watch or listen to them! They aren't "influencers" if they don't influence anyone, especially you.
ОтветитьFirst time seeing your video. Do you do your own nails? They look great.
ОтветитьI love getting gift cards. I usually have my kids get me an Amazon card or Barnes and Noble for me to get more E-books.
ОтветитьSo basically don’t buy anything ever! This is so unrealistic for so many people. The reality is most families do need more than one of one thing as it’s just not efficient to use the same pot and wash it 4xs during one meal prep. That’s a lot of extra work. And thrift stores? Great in theory but they’re just as expensive now as brand new stuff. How does a business owner NOT buy paper and pens and office supplies? Sincerely. I understand not buying a lot and not going hog wild but like. I’m sorry these “look at everything I no longer buy” just feel like holier than thou guilt trips for those of us who still buy things. Minimal mom is fantastic but I’m so over the “don’t buy” mentality from influencers well off enough to live in such ways.
ОтветитьIm one of those people who can't think straight when there's clutter. When I redecorate, I have a plan ahead of time. That way there's no overspending. Once I have the look I want, before the new comes in, the old gets donated. Also, always measure whatever you plan on buying beforehand. My mothet always did this and passed her wisdom down. As for matching colors and textures, take a picture of what you have on your phone and take it to wherever you're shopping. Returns are not only a hassle, saving time is saving money on gas, etc. No need to buy everything all at once, especially if there's a budget in place. Shop around and wait for sales. It's fun to gradually achieve the look you really want. Be practical and proactive. Impulse buying quickly looses it's appeal and wastess money.
ОтветитьGreat video!
Ответить👍Thank You🎉
