I love this series.
Honestly, questionable ports - with a few surprises that have no right being this good - could describe Sega's legacy on any platform. Especially a 2d focused one.
I'd agree with nearly all your calls, except for Altered Beast. Those Famicom graphics are so bad they pick up a bit of charm, in the same way as Ghouls N' Ghosts on C64. I much prefer the novelty of miniatures over completely sacrificing the gameplay.
Besides, the graphics really improve once you escape that first level. Especially in the new stages.
Meanwhile, the Master System....let's just say that if we were only ranking Sega games with a broken frame rate and poor controls, it would still be near the bottom of my list. This one should have been an easy win for them; even characters the size of Black Belt/Fist of the Northstar would have justified an 8-bit port.
I expect this kind of work from Tiertex, not a top tier Japanese developer.
I loved the NES version of Shinobi as a kid. I played it constantly when I was like five I didn’t know any other version existed it was the 90’s before the internet was commonplace
ОтветитьWell I never! Must confess to be entirely ignorant to the existence of these ports (apart from Alien Syndrome which I only discovered on your channel earlier). My biased brain tells me the Master System blows away these conversions, but I am impressed with the detail in the Afterburner port. Shinobi does look awful though as does the Wonderboy 2 port, both games look superior on the good ol SMS.
ОтветитьFantastic video as usual...very impressive the AFTER BURNER port...yes the japanese one, of course
ОтветитьAfterburner is worse on SMS!?!? Will have to go back to play that one! I used to like it back in 89. Always thought that Sega should have made the characters on SMS Altered Beast as small as the rest of the enemies for better frame rate… also just match! Maybe they could have squeezed level 3 there with the savings!
ОтветитьWhomp'Em is a cool game! I think I still have the cart
Ответитьme as a kid would get truly excited for afterburner on the nes
ОтветитьWhile I played and love the SMS when I was a kid, I can honestly say that if the developers knew what and how to do it, and also had the time to achieve it, they could've made so much more with the NES ports, to the point that sometimes these releases seem like a hidden joke, much like those pissed off Disney employees inserting improper content into their movies.
There are exclusive NES games similar to Space Harrier that are really smooth and more interesting, at the same time, some games such as Outrun, a first party Sega game is so choppy on the SMS, comparing it to the Road Rash on the same system is almost like the latter is in a different hardware, RR isn't fast, but technically it's doing so much more. To be honest, even the Genesis version of Outrun doesn't feel they gave their all, even the colors are off.
Fans have been restoring and improving arcade ports across lots of systems, Mortal Kombat on the Genesis with much more content, more graphical details, voices, the list is huge, it just goes to say that we rarely received what should have been, but the prices were always up there.
I love adventure island all 4 of them on NES and Famicom are excellent
ОтветитьIt's so surreal seeing Sega games on a Nintendo console before SA2, considering how hard they went at each other in the 90's.
ОтветитьThis is like how Minecraft despite being own by Microsoft is playable on other game consoles.
ОтветитьWhat a great video 👍
I had no idea half of these games had ever been made 😳
You have a new subscriber 😜
I tried out Sayuki world and got pretty far since I was so familiar with wonder boy, it seemed a lot easier with how much money you get. I also didn't mind altered beast for nes over all.
ОтветитьHolaaaa
ОтветитьThanks for the great video. Afterburner for the NES is really impressing. My all time favorite Puyopuyo game is "Puyopuyo Sun". Love the happy Carribean music and the happy theme. 🌞
