A memorandum was signed between Caucasus International University and Niagara College Canada in order to share experience in the field of education and research.
Academic cooperation envisages the following activities: implementation of exchange programs for students and professors in the field of viticulture and winemaking; promotion of grant projects; organization of seminars, workshops and conferences in order to support the field.
The Canadian side was represented by: Gary Torraville – Director, International at Niagara College, Maxine Semple – Manager, Cultural and Global Engagement, Niagara College, Gavin Robertson – Professor, the School of Food and Wine Science, Niagara College.
Mr. Kakhaber Kordzaia, Rector introduced the history, goals and visions of Caucasus International University to the guests prior to signing the document. Chancellor of the University, Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze spoke about Georgian traditions and history of Qvevri wine. Mrs. Olan Gotsiridze, Dean introduced the delegates the endemic grape varieties, the long-standing traditions of wine production and the achievements of the Faculty of Viticulture and Winemaking at Caucasus International University in this regard.
After the meeting, representatives of Niagara College visited the infrastructure of Caucasus International University. They became familiar with the specifics of the activities implemented by the multimedia center, visited the library, the offices equipped with the latest anatomical models and moulage kits of the Faculty of Medicine, the biochemical training laboratories and the wine cellar Kolkhi. The guests took part in harvesting and pressing wine, tasted Georgian dishes and drinks.
Within the framework of the visit, the delegates got acquainted with the wine production process of the company established on the base of Caucasus International University – “Ethno-Okami” and the traditions of Georgian winemaking on the spot.
The official representative of CIU, Besiki Surguladze, a Georgian doctor and scientist working in Canada, coordinated the establishment of the relationship between Caucasus International University and Niagara College and the planning of further steps.
The cooperation between educational institutions was facilitated by Giorgi Meskheli, Acting Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to Canada.
