Clay could you make a list or a video on your “worth their weight in gold” tools? I’ve bought so many of them hearing you say that and have been a huge help.

On the subject of southern people being taught how to basically work with your hands. I don't believe it's just people from the south. I believe its more on our parents wanting us to be able to do things for ourselves and not rely on someone to do it. My dad taught me alot about how to work on car and doing things around the house. Now I'm doing the same with my daughter.
On the subject of this generation of not knowing how to work on cars its nothing new. There are people in their 30s, 40s even 50s that don't know anything about working on cars.
Side note I hate working on electrical. I will juat pay a person that knows what he/she is doing to diagnose and fix electrical problems on my cars.
Supper to hear mama matco is doing better.

The brake is a 100 and the blade is a 100 and that 200 is well worth it, I always keep a spare of each on hand so production can keep going, only had the brake go off on the saw once so it does work I barely got a scratch

Really like those picks but they are pricey. Cornwell picks are just as strong for half price, just the handle takes time getting use to

I love the power probe piercers. I'm a marine mechanic, so sometimes I have to test a circuit with a momentary switch and just being able to listen for the beep has saved me so much time. We don't really have the luxury of Deutsch connectors or anything. Just 2 wires butt connected and heat shrunk. But always silicone or liquid electrical tape.

The saw stop works exactly the same way a touch lamp like grandma had works. The way your skin turns on the lamp from touch, activates the detonator (just like an airbag in a car) to jam the sawblade in milliseconds. The newer saw stops dont ruin the saw, they just have a replaceable module and blade if activated.

No matter what it costs, what are your fingers worth?

I wish that id had a matco dealer like Michael. Id have bought more stuff from them over the years. EVERY shop I was at, the matco guy would show up once every 10 weeks and randomly skip that visit when you needed him most.

Thanks for the electrical tool tips and suggestions. Just getting back into the automotive repair side. I been working with underwater robotics the past 6 years. So trying to catch up with automotive electrical. What do ya suggest for lab scopes. I used table top oscilloscopes before , but been looking for an automotive style. Any suggestions or advice? Leaning towards a picoscope. Thanks!

Matco Mike and I are the the same age ‘91. And we probably feel the same way ab our generation. We’ve got a lot of dummies that know everything already but there’s some of us that were raised to be able to do it ourselves but our kids generation... these kids don’t care anything ab knowing how to work on stuff. A lot of them and I know not all but a lot believe that tradesmen are low on the economy and intellectual spectrum but as an industrial electrical tech I’m making more than 90% of these kids that are 100k in the hole after a 2 4 and 6 year degree. And y’all are right a lot of us have failed as parents to prepare our kids for the real world.

Society and technology have advanced so much that one person cant do it all anymore. People used to build their own homes, grow their own food, fix their own cars, and everything else that goes with homesteading. Yeah they may not be able to change your battery or change oil, But they can write code or build computers, engineer things etc. Things that they consider basic tasks we may be as clueless as they are with cars.

Mr Clay, I just finished watching. You and Michael on u tube, talking about electrical. I have a question and I hope u can help me out. I have taken my trailer to different shops to get my lights fixed. It seems that when I turn. My left blinker inside the truck. ,the rear left trailer lights won't. Blink same goes. To emergency blinkers on left side. When I have lights on all lights on truck and trailer air working.. y right side blinker and emergency light work. When I took it to. A shop, the me hands put on a batter to the trailer and worked the lights that way. He replaced lights that weren't out or damaged and said. ,the problem was due ro. A short should or wire. I explained to him that on tractor relay box infrastructure of. Truck a relay got hot . He replaced it and the lights worked for approx 2 min. Then it went back to doing the same. He gave up and said it was underneath the trailer. But I have used other tractors with this trailer and it all works just fine. My question to u ,is won't it be. The wiring from the relay box to the connector where the pig tail connect to tractor.. my next solution is to. Replace the connector on tractor. Pig tail is new. And I need to know what kind of tester I need to purchase, to better check my relay. I did u a deluxe automotive meterESC585M from a cornwell truck, while I was. On a 30 min break. But I am baffled by this. I did take 12months of electronics for the improved hawk .issue system. But this is different . Ca. U help or have u had this sit come to ur shop. I have an old Kentucky trailer. Furniture van, with belly boxes. So I hope that between Micheal and u can help me.velieve me if I were in the vicinity of ur shop. My headache would be gone. I'd pay uro fixit. Eighter way can u please advice. I am alway looking for a good mechanic shop on the road. Thanks

FYI the building codes in Chicago requires light switches to be serviced by electricians. Even though this is excessive, it prevents a lot of people from even realizing in the first place that they are capable of DIY home repairs. Some other examples of strict city codes preventing homeowners from DIY'ing: toilets, sinks, P-traps, light fixtures, electrical conduit, light switches - these are all things that Chicago code requires a licensed professional to repair. Many home owners don't care about these codes and do their own repairs (ahem), but it's worth mentioning.
