I know a lot of people that are more into old magic due to aesthetics and the power level. Phil Foglio art is pretty darn distinct and gave a lot of life that is devoid in many of the more recent sets. That and the emotion around current themes is sort of a feeling of "second hand, reused, copying something done already..." so it is boring or not particularly memorable.
