Ah yes he's a complete midfielder... a complete defensive midfielder. Someone who does the dirty work of always offering a backpass and keeping possession. He's not a CAM and I don't think he ever will be. He's not used to working in extremely tight spaces and doesn't have the finishing ability to do it.
His strength is in being able to dribble forwards from out back and always being an option to play to without losing the ball. But that's also because he plays in the back where there is more space. In Barca you can tell they're forcing him forward where he keeps losing the ball over and over again.

The best antidote to someone like de Jong is to park the bus. Don't even try to chase him, just wait for the ball to come.
