Congrats to the people who said that serfs were the lowest on the social ladder of feudalism! @World History Encyclopedia great idea to get people to view this video by having that fun little poll about the levels of society.

There's social hierarchy, military service and an economic relationship between the different parties. The spread of money decoupled economic relationships. I understand tenancy, military service as economic activity. What puzzles me is the social hierarchy.

You taught very well but we need more explanation about vassal duke duchy . You just say the words as it is in the book or text but we need a explanation like fief means a kind of fee given to king like that .

I never realized land ownership & home equity is sooo fcking important
in fact it seemed like a trap_at least the whole lifetime mortgage loan trap
but if one can raise enough capital to buy land & property & farm w/ cash
they instantly literally become landLORDS_its our only defense in the reset
of course gotta avoid their health traps_the needles_toxic food/water_etc
but if we can avoid their traps_get property_metals_wow history repeats

I think every society in medieval days has practiced feudalism in one form or the other....as land was the only source of wealth and economy as a result was primarily agricultural.

As In india varna system was very similar to this...the four classes each with different functions... brahmina (priest ),kshatriya (warrior ), vaishya ( majority land owner class ) and shudra ( labour class).

Agrarian socity + asymetric power structure produced some variation of feudalism in every society...

In india we can still witness some mild form of feudalism in rural areas.

It's better than capitalism and communism. Feudalism was is at least hierarchical and respected property rights.

No! I wouldn't want to live in the medieval days when Feudalism is practiced. A major reason is the clear distinction in social class. Secondly, it is very undemocratic
Finally I'll say that Feudalism came into being as a result of exploitation of people who couldn't defend themselves from Anarchy in Europe.
Thanks allot ❤ I really enjoyed this Video

After feudalism came the absolute monarchies, and those were worse imo. Bigger wars and more royal decadence. During the feudal era at least a king couldn't afford to get fat because he was meant to be leading the troops. Would be nice to have the more commercial, monetary dynamic with social mobility alongside the more feudal obligations the leadership would have to honor.

I disagree that feudalism in common for England and Europe. Academically, the term feudalism is avoided to use. The term feudalisms (the plural one) could be more applicable for the Mediveal times because the feudalism in England much more different than France's feudalism. William the Conqueror, as u mentioned, centralised England, and that created an another feudalism understanding; however, at first, France, the rest of Europe and also Japan had different understanding on feudalism or the vassalage. I think, these must not be forgotten=)

I much prefer the modern world where all the lives of the world are at the whims of international bankers, all the air and food and water is polluted, and we delude ourselves with hedonism and technology into thinking we're free! We're all addicted and depressed! It's amazing!

Everyone talks about the organizational structure of feudalism!!! But how did people survive in Europe before the advent of fuedalism in the interim period between the fall of Western Rome in 476AD and the beginning of feudalism in 483AD???
How do you spend seventeen years waking up in the morning with nothing to do and nowhere
to go???
