Very nice video. I also relate ... in Colombia we say, "when you leave the country, you no longer belong here or there" ... I think we start belonging to something different. But I wouldn't change this experience for anything ... it's so wonderful to understand another culture and see things from their perspective. Now, I'm into French ... that my next stop.
ОтветитьHow does learning English ruin a life?
I am a native Dutch speaker but i also speak English perfectly fine and it didn't ruin my life😊
Other than that a great video keep up the great work👍
And greetings from the Netherlands🇳🇱
Excellent. May love find you.
ОтветитьWell, go back to Lao Tzu, there is everything you need .
Ответить人类命运共同体,其实地球就像一个村落,相互依存。共同繁荣,共同发展才是人类的未来。
ОтветитьYour English is impeccable. You are more articulate and richer in vocabulary than many English people I meet in the UK. 你讲的话题也很有趣。
ОтветитьVery well articulated and much appreciated Siming. Some of us were not as fortunate, yes perhaps English was over emphasized in Malaya in 1955, we didn't know any better. Registered into an English school by parents who knew better, we struggled with 'Mandarin' much to our regrets later in life. Yes there were always awkward situations along the way, these were more than balanced out by being multilingual in malay, english and local chinese dialects. (different era to yours). Biggest regret was not being proficient in Mandarin to understanding it's culture, history and 'lao tze and confucian' teachings.
Each of us gains but lose nothing by being multilingual, as the world evolves towards a multipolar era, it's crucial the multilingual populace increase participation to knit a much more peaceful global future.
Thank you for this video. God bless.
Cheap shot
ОтветитьLol based
ОтветитьThis is exactly how I feel. I created my own culture based on observation from traveling, which is empowering. It gives a purpose and tools other people don't have (doesn't even know they could). On the other hand, it changes perspective so much, that it happens to be quite challenging to relate completely with other people. It also create need to relate with other people completely and not partialy. Finding such people is a big challange. Good luck, I'm sure you can find them. :)
ОтветитьWhat you acquired from the foreign wisdom, these wisdom are actually in the Chinese literature. As China expand inwardly, eventually what you have overseas, China will gradually have them too. To feed such a population will require lot of time and efforts to be like in overseas. Most people do not understand size do matters. As mentioned earlier, you feel good when you are overseas, your foreign friends feel the same when they have to spend some time in China. It is natural. There are knowledge everywhere also in India, Africa etc if you can identify the present of knowledge in these places when you visited them. China is not inferior to any other countries in this area and because you are not exposed or that was not the in-thing during your time in China. We often think that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. So if you have a Chinese on one side of the fence and a foreigner on the other side of the fence, you will be puzzle by your thinking. An American show, a woman said “why do you want to be a second class man when you can be a first class woman”. So don't think the foreign land or foreigner is better but be what you are that would be a better choice than trying to cross the fence.
ОтветитьJust felt this blues just before stumbling onto your vlog. Keep up young lady!!!
ОтветитьThis a great video, thank you
ОтветитьYour thinking like an American in China 🤔
ОтветитьLove may find you open minds & see another picture
ОтветитьHmm. I am Russian but I studied English and it was a good thing for me
ОтветитьSehr gut 🙂 ❤❤❤
Ответитьsnails' shells are intrinsically aesthetically interesting and they will naturally coil to either the left or right. for a particular species of common garden snail, only about 1 in 40,000 will coil left. this is good because even as hermaphrodites, snails' genitals must match up for them to reproduce. which brings us to jeremy the left handed common garden snail. studying the life of snails, jeremy's caretaker wanted to have him reproduce but did not have a suitable mate. suitable meaning 'having a leftward twist,' and jeremy sat alone while the call went out for another lefty potential mate. after some time, not one, but 2 potential mates were found an brought to jeremy's crib … and soon mated with each other. it was not noted, but i feel that jeremy had to be sulking with disappointment. however, with not much longer to live, the two were separated and jeremy's time had come to fulfill his destiny and so he did … and died shortly thereafter. when you're feeling alone or lonely, think of jeremy and be glad that you're not a left handed snail, but know that even if you were, you will still find a match out there somewhere.
also, agreed, english is horrible.
Thanks for sharing. ^^
ОтветитьWonderful in every respect. I totally understand that you may feel lonely. What you are experiencing is the opposite
of falling love. You have to sacrifice your identity fo really fall in love. The price to be paid for love is always pain.
I still love you!
I am Brazilian and I feel the same way disconnected from the reality of my country
ОтветитьLearning languages ruined my life. Always an outsider.
ОтветитьI have also been going through a process of expanding my horizons and therefore growing away from the people I once felt most connected to, even feeling lonely and isolated at times. But I’ve learned that there is a lot to be said for growing more and more connected to yourself. Often we are significantly alienated from ourselves and don’t even know it. Getting back in touch with yourself can do a lot to alleviate the loneliness, even if you still feel like other people don’t “get you“
ОтветитьI find you as an epitome of beauty.
ОтветитьYou're awesome.🙏
Ответитьi bet the title is super clickbait but I’ve still got to watch it
ОтветитьI've listened to you before, quite a bit, from the perspective of a trained listener, amused by your upper class British pronunciation of English. Your command of English as spoken in "cafe society" the U.K. has prepared you for positions in the diplomatic corps, as well as marriage partner for some nice British boy. I wish you well.
ОтветитьYou are a very deep girl. I hope you can help the West to understand China, which can be hard when there are so many restrictions on free expression in China.
ОтветитьI came from your Chinese Government/History video and watched this one as well. We're INFJs, so it is the norm for us to feel the loneliness like what you felt exactly, it has little to do with learning a new language, even though for native mandarin speakers, it opens a new world for logical thinking of English language, it doesn't mean your feelings are caused by learning English...I realized it was a CLICKBAIT, but anyways good video, shout out to you for exposing how the western media shade on Chinese culture, and spreading wise words
ОтветитьWell I for one am really glad you learnt English because not only do you sound and look fabulous but I do not have to use sub-titles. lol💘💝
ОтветитьA very sweet and poignant video. Thank you for sharing all this.
Ответить中国文化从一出生,就读圣贤书,圣贤书教的是如何做人做事,格物致知,修身齐家,如何获得内心的平衡,这和西方教育本质的区别。
ОтветитьThis is my favorite of all your presentations, Siming. Very inspiring, and very beautiful.
ОтветитьIt very much depends on how YOUNG you were when you started learning a language (and were exposed to the culture, lifestyles and ways of thinking) as well as how DIFFERENT (and distant) all of them are compared to your primary language & Co.
Moreover, it does matter HOW you have been learning a language: in a bilingual family, in a course, living in a foreign country etc.
Learning (and actually speaking) a language cannot ruin anyone's life but enrich and enhance it not only in terms of better memory, attention, and problem-solving skills.
You stand out of the crowd in a way but you would not feel that way if you were surrounded by like-minded people who speak more than one language.
As a mother in Serbia used to say about her daughter: 'She had always been interested in things that were far away - languages, philosophy, people, lifestyle. No wonder that she has married a Brazilian from Germany with Japanese ancestors, who speaks six languages, and that they live in South Africa where they teach two and three languages, respectively.' 😂 Such is life.
Each language is bound by history and its convolutions to the present time, evolving, mixing, some are creole, borrowing, (English-allways on the scavenge), it creates simplicity, dignity, and usage for the mind to create and behave, a washboard of contortions at times, that is why quite times lingers in the warm shade of temerity...........
ОтветитьThis is exactly what happened to me.
I lost most of my friends because I screwed them all after making fun of me just because I was too strive in acquiring fluency, and not just that coz I became an arrogant d*ckhead towards everyone just because I low-key kinda sound like someone who actually live, grew up in English environment.
I criticized everyone including teachers just because of their thick accent, to the point where nobody wants to even talk to me at all...
At first it doesn't bother me coz I'd be just talk to people from different countries online, but eventually I've finally realized that I was totally f*ked up...
I didn't even recognize me anymore.
This lady has a wonderful Accent
ОтветитьLanguage is a “Trojan “ horse
ОтветитьI'm already alone and disconnected, so I guess there's nothin' to worry about for me 🤣
ОтветитьI have learned so much from your videos. What I have learned the most is what a beautiful heart you have. Thank you.
ОтветитьI can somewhat relate to what you are saying but perhaps my experience not as drastic as yours being from a pseudo western background I.e. born Chinese Singaporean and having later on living in Australia for quite a while now. I somewhat feel neither Singaporean nor Australian but can also somewhat identify with both!
ОтветитьI think you are just a wonderful, intelligent, open-minded person… someone like that, no matter what language they speak… will often find themselves alone. But we luv you 😉
Ответить1. You might be interested in Gutenberg Collage. Similar authors are read and discussed there.
2. I have found reading the Psalms very encouraging in dealing with the difficulty of life. An ancient Hebrew king lived very different from modern American, but struggled with the same pain and loneliness while dealing with the same kind and merciful creator.
I relate to this so much. I feel like living outside my original culture and certain experiences. it feels like I'm a plant that's roots grew too big for the pot. I've been moved to a new pot, but they didn't add more soil, and what was enough for me once, isn't enough for me anymore. I'm no longer fully grounded.
ОтветитьThat’s crazy thinking
ОтветитьBeautiful essay.
ОтветитьTry being a black conservative!
