The "Splash" damage is probably from the fact they fire three arrows and they most likely were "missing" their shots but actually hitting other units next to their target due to their 80% accuracy

When i saw hera trying to outmicro that tower with fire archers i almost went mad 🤣🤣🤣🤣 the increased range vs buildings works without the unique tech ;)

Jo Hera, you know you get the extra range on those fire archers without the unique tech? Unique tech just increases dmg by adding a burn effect :)

Fire archers are different than siege as they force the opponent to engage or get buildings melted, then are mediocre support without friendly fire. They fail as a small force or as the bulk of damage output in an army. But they work well as a pressure unit as you have to fight massed fire archers or your TC and castle die, and they can protect themselves a bit and run a little, as well as being unsnipeable. They are really bad if you use them in place of archer line though. I think a balanced unit for castle age win condition civ
