Wait, what do you mean they can’t use “may contain”? I see that with all types of allergens on ingredient lists
ОтветитьThis one pissed me the hell off when it happened (I am allergic to sesame)
ОтветитьGluten, sesame seeds, peanuts... for the first 20+ years of my life I never ever came across anyone with the frequency these allergies exist today. Nobody i knew couldn't eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I find it interesting that as people realized a gluten free diet is healthier, the prevalence of self-diagnosed gluten allergies exponentionally increased.
A high dollar, five star restaurant in NYC, about 10 years ago, stated they would make any dish gluten free, as long as the individual had a medical diagnosis. Good requests for same price gluten free meals dramatically decreased.
First time where I genuinely thought the idea wasn't bad
ОтветитьThe “may contain” label can essentially be roulette, making it useless to start with. I have celiac which fortunately doesn’t risk my life but unfortunately can cause reactions where the most significant/uncomfortable effects might stick with me for a solid week.
I don’t know what the threshold for reaction for sesame is, but for celiac/gluten it’s said that any more than 20 parts per billion is a potential trigger. So for us with celiac, and likely also for those who have allergies and are sensitive to tiny amounts of their allergens, the prevalence of “may contain” labeling and the use of that labeling for a wide variety of risk levels (since it’s about lawsuits and not food safety) muddies the water more than it helps. I personally would rather have a system that rates how likely cross contact was.
Why is it that Americans are allergic to everything? Definitely something wrong with the food and the genetics of the American population…
ОтветитьAhh yes, the humble sesame seed. Destroyer of worlds.
Ответитьif you can't beat em. join em.
ОтветитьPeople need to get over theirselves. Allergies can be overcome. Just eat seseme seeds
Ответитьi thought this was since forever?
ОтветитьIn 20-30 years, everything will be on the severe allergen list. Then what?
Ответитьkarina was a joy this stream
ОтветитьYou know what? I am sick and tired of humans being allergic to almost every food imaginable!
Yet i never hear of people being allergic to lettuce, olives, pickles, mustard, onions!
Wtf?!
i love how companies will choose evil no matter how stupid it is to do so. how the fuck do these people sleep at night.
ОтветитьThoes same products would be still possibly contaminated with sesame seeds and would not be eaten by thoes who are alergic.
ОтветитьSO SMARRRTTT!!!!
ОтветитьAll seeds are the plants young. They are protected by a shit load of toxins. There is not a safe plant to eat. Ever. For any reason.
ОтветитьI'm starting to think that fines are not actually the best deterrent to... Anything. They just seem to line pockets...
ОтветитьRight up there with Proposition 65 in California.
ОтветитьI thought, "Since everything is going to have a sesame seed warning, nobody is going to pay attention to it." Boy was I wrong.
ОтветитьAllergic to shit? dont procreate, live your life and we'll be stronger for it
ОтветитьOne out of 300 mil ain't that bad, let's get this over with and then deal with mfrs that are allergic to PB
ОтветитьI remember when I thought reason was smart and I was 13
Ответить............ americans.
ОтветитьThat’s Corporatism at its finest! Regulations seem like a great idea until lawyers and accountants get involved.
ОтветитьI guess my mom wasn't lying when she said she can't have sesame seeds. My bad.
ОтветитьThe other thing that could have happened is that the bakeries might have just eliminated the seed and put the sesame farmers out of business
ОтветитьHow the hell is someone going to be allergic to sesame seeds? They need to quit with all these fake allergies
ОтветитьI am also joining the war on sesame seeds on the side of sesame seeds, GOD BLESS THE SESAME SEEDS OF AMERICA!!!!
ОтветитьCross contact*
ОтветитьThe solution? Replace the FDA with a private company that can be punished for stupid rules!
ОтветитьThis is the first video Ive seen someone talk about this. I’m allergic to sesame and now I simply cannot have barely any bread and other things. This screwed my food situation up so badly lmao.
ОтветитьWait... here in Europe you actually have to put potential allegerns on the package and it works. Never have thought it actally might be a problem but honestly why it doesnt surpise me that it is in America?
ОтветитьYoure annoying
ОтветитьJust expose kids to sesame and peanuts so they do not develop the allergy in the first place !
ОтветитьOnce again this channel blames the government instead of the private companies. As someone who is horribly allergic to mangoes and has to ask everywhere I go, I actually appreciate the fact that we have a government agency that holds companies accountable for listing what goes in their product.
This whole channel is just propaganda to get you all to vote for deregulating companies so they can skirt safety and transparency.
Policy makers really are dumb
ОтветитьThis actually backfired badly on the companies that did this, and they’ve taken their own steps to actually comply with the FDA’s wishes.
ОтветитьSeems to me the FDA guidelines being too strict with labeling was the biggest issue.
ОтветитьHow are Americans alergic to everything?? This is just natural selection at work
ОтветитьI've always been curious why do people in the West especially the US have so much allergies. I'm Asian and I've met very few people with allergies over here...
ОтветитьMy cousin is allergic to sesame. She can’t eat anything that might have come in contact with sesame anyway so it doesn’t make any difference to her. At least if it’s in there she knows she can’t have it. When she first started having reactions her mom had to start making all baked products at home with certified sesame free products because it was literally impossible to find commercially made products that were certified as sesame free, just ingredients.
ОтветитьThey tyranny of the minorty.. where did our country go wrong.
ОтветитьGood lol tired of weaklings who are allergic to everything. Maybe don’t vaccinate your infant newborn children with 30 different diseases 1 week out of the fuckin womb and they won’t develop weird shit like this.
ОтветитьDamn, those poor businesses having to actually try to not kill their customers. How horrible for them.
ОтветитьThat's fantastic.
ОтветитьThe United States isn't ready to have a discussion about people who are allergic to a bunch of different grasses we use. There's so many reasons grass lawns are the worst option possible
ОтветитьWhy not just say "may contain seeds" instead of adding them themselves?
ОтветитьI am allergic to sesame seeds and it’s impossible to buy bread
Ответить
