I don't understand why the controls confuse you so much. Just imagine your perspective being in a different spot than the camera. It's really easy. I just remembered that that direction is up and everything else falls into place. You're making it out to be way more difficult than it actually is.

We played this game for hours on the c64 back in the day and absolutely loved it! Especially the impressive graphics...doubt we ever beat it....
