I really like Casper. I am happy he won today! Hoping Carlos feels better for his next match.

Ruud played well. Alcaraz was sick and a mess. End of story. He should withdraw and rest…

You guys always make excuses for Alcaraz. Maybe he has a cold, but please be honest and say that Carlos has never been good on Indoor Hardcourt and never won anything on indoor hardcourt. He even said he will get better at indoor in his presser, hence JCarlos bringing in the indoor hardcourt surface for Carlos. I think Carlos is just a very talented 6 month season player and you commentators will have to learn to deal with that fact, and please stop going orgasmic on Carlitos constantly. I find it nauseating to listen to on TC.

I also note that the heirarchy at TC never give Nole or Sinner an excuse pass when they are having a bad day or injured. The onle exception to this is Andy Roddick at TC.

Carlos should just withdraw and rest up for Davis cup which starts early next week. Carlos will get another chance to compete in the ATP finals however Rafa only retires once and team Spain need him fully healthy to even compete. Rublev and Zerev will destroy him in this current state. Such a shame his year ends this way however it fully encapsulates his year. Had spectacular highs and devastating lows to end the year with 2 grand slams and at #3 in the world with a cold.

Alcaraz was not sick in Paris where he played just as bad.

I swear Ruud has the talent and racket skill to be such a force on any surface, but he plays passive or doesn’t bring his best often. When he cleans up a few things and presses more on offense, Ruud is hard to beat.

Until Carlos has a reliable serve, he's going to have some questionable losses on HC. He's too streaky to get by all the time with a mediocre serve.

too many excuses … Alcaraz’s game is for Clay and long Grand Slam matches (best of five sets). Just as Zverev’s game is made for short matches (best of 3 sets) …

Just confirms everything i was saying throughout the years
Atp finals is a terrible tournament ,has been for the last i dont know how many years.
In the last years, guys who never won a slam ,won this event just because the top guys were not that motivated.
Golden years of this tournament were in the 90’s ,Germany Masters was the best one (Hannover & Frankfurt).
I never felt it was a worthy event after Sampras Kuerten Lisboa time.
Fed Nalbandian China was ok but everything later ,i never felt it.
For me ,nothing can compare with Hannover ,Frankfurt years.

I think when we look back at this season for Carlos, we will see he played bad relative to his own standards and got lucky in the 2 runs for the GS final win. We are close to saying players and coaches have figured him out

this is one of the only recaps I've seen that actually gives Ruud credit instead of just talking about Alcaraz feeling sick. It's definitely a large factor, but it's nice to see some credit for the Norwegian.

Sadly rublev and zverev will crush this version of carlos so I think it is a good decision for carlos to withdraw and give grigor an opportunity to compete.

I would love to see Alcaraz go more quickly to the block and slice forehand returns a la Wimbledon final. He missed a number of big cuts on forehand returns to my eye, without diligently counting. Also hope he turns it around!

I've come to expect this from Alcaraz. It's not an upset anymore.
Alcaraz is just not an elite player post US Open. This is his normal level now unless he shows he can win Shanghai/Paris/ATP Finals.
Maybe he'll have a Nadal like career in the post US Open stretch which is not bad but it means he needs to make the most of the time of season when he plays his best i.e from Buenos Aires, Rio, Sunshine double, clay swing, grass swing otherwise Jannik will surpass him as most of the Masters are on hard courts and ATP is making the courts faster. Sinner can be number 1 for a long time.

So Carlos comes to Turin sick and they spend a load of time together, Great. Now they'll all, or some of them at least, will get sick too just in time for the SFs Damn.
No doubt Carlos will be over it by then. You have to laugh.

A grenade, not a laser. What a great line! That describes why generations of clay court specialists have had a hard time on hard courts.

Whenever one of this top guys lose it's almost always explained by sickness or injury. You saw the same with Djokovic and Rafa whenever they lost an unexpected game.

At least you give a fair analysis of the match ! Carlos didn't loss only because he was not feeling well... but also because Casper was making it impossible to Carlos to settle in the game ! Casper backhand was on clutch ! It's funny because Casper played Carlos like other player play himself... backhand to backhand. Carlos and Casper are actually having a similar type of play (Carlos is more complete) but both want to dictate with the forehand and the backhand wing is the "weakness"... I always enjoy watching those 2 playing each other ! It's always interesting on whose will be able to have the forehand, or making the less unforced errors, the most nice volleys, etc. And I did see Casper in the 2nd set trying to do some SABR in return of serve!!😅And I like it it works !

ATP finals years ago Sampras was playing in the final, 5 sets in those days, he was throwing up on court and he continued to play and finally won the championships.Check it out.
