When I watched the scene from Stranger Things, I knew it was Glass even though I never heard that piece before and despite it only being played for a moment. Too epic and amazing to be anyone else.

I love this piece so much. I wonder what the Stranger Things fans thought when they came here and found out that there was actually a voice part? Kind of like finding out that Beethoven's Ninth has a voice part.

When I hear 'Open the Kingdom' it reminds me of the foolish virgins who didn't have extra oil for their lamps and when they went back to get more and then came to the banquet they were sent away. I can imagine them hammering on the door and asking 'Open the Kingdom'.

Dan Flavin and Philip Glass are a bomb combo

A friend told me some years back that he didn't care for Glass's music - he found it cold, mechanical. I was astonished, as I have always found it some of the most emotionally powerful music I've ever heard. Several years ago I attended a performance here in Torino, Italy, of Akhenaten. This was also stunning. The lead part was sung by a male soprano, and he was great. They've come a long way in technique since the days of Farinelli. I'm not expert enough to say whether Douglas Perry is a soprano, alto, or contralto. But whatever he is, he's a marvel.
