Even when I cared about languages & studied them, I only like reading & writing them. I had no interest in speaking & listening, since that has to be done in real time. Whereas one can take as much time as one wants to read & write. Just spend $400 on a Jarvisen handheld translator. Then you can translate hundreds of languages. And I am fucking sick to death about this fanatical extremist ideology that "the best way to learn a language is immersion". Immersion has never done shit for me. The only way I ever got even mildly good at reading, writing, speaking & hearing Russian is by slow painful language classes in public schools.
