Ahhh yes...Iguana meat.

Nicaragua banned the hunting and eating of iguanas many years ago, but it is still done today in the more rural parts of the country. Because iguana meat was originally part of the indigenous cultures (Mayanagna and Miskito), it is still made in the houses of indigenous folk.

Today, we'll be going into a local's house to eat some fresh iguana meat. In the process, we'll meet an indigenous Mayangna family who shares stories of her life, struggles, and introduces me to her family.

Once again, Nicaraguan hospitality blew me out of the park. Let's go.

There are only a few small indigenous groups in all of Nicaragua, with the Miskitos and Mayangna being the largest. They are all over the coastal regions of Nicaragua and sparsed out within the forest areas within Central Nicaragua. Wasa King, a small town where this video takes place, is about a 1-hour drive from the city of Rosita, a city in Central Nicaragua known for it's gold and mineral deposits.
