Cement Step Repair in One Day

I'm about to repair the corner of a concrete step like this using quikcrete. I've read that you need to use a bonding agent first or the new concrete won't adhere to the dry concrete, but you didn't do that. Is it unnecessary?

You painted the bonding agent straight from the bottle on to the concrete. No premixing it with a little concrete first?

Is it important to keep the moisture in as long as possible?

Using Pam is a great idea. I'm rebuilding the front steps to my house. Right now it's 4' x 4' and about 10" high. I'd like to enlarge it to 5' x 4'. Just one level high.

FYI they have a Kwik-Crete mix that includes the bonding agent and saves an entire step. This mix also makes it unnecessary to keep the surface moist and covered.

Absolutely no reason to wear a respirator after the cement is mixed.

You don’t have to wait for the bonding agent to dry,you can use it wet on wet

A note on terminology-guy keeps mistakenly calling the product 'cement'.This could lead to confusion for some viewers as cement alone is NEVER to be used in these circumstances. The product is a mixture of cement,graded sands and other proprietary ingredients.It's essentially a fast setting mortar mix.

I took down our porch and was left with a battered looking concrete slab base. I've been thinking of repairing it in this way and then using tiles to finish off as a decent sized front door step. This video is spot on for my idea

You forgot to vacuum up all dust, and prior to that, to use a wire brush on all exposed areas to be recovered.

I enjoyed your video on broken stairs. I had my stairs repaired not all stairs were cracked. I wanted all stairs cemented to look even. The man didn’t guarantee his work now some stairs are bubbling & peeling. I am a woman now I have to repair his work. Please I need answers what to do. Thank You

RapidSet CementAll or Mortar Mix along with a bag or two of flow control would be pourable and rock hard in an hour; while RapidSet doesn’t need/require a bonding agent it can be used. I like the pourable flow as it gets into every nook and cranny whereas stiffer concrete mixes and those with larger aggregates can have voids when used as patchers, if not vibrates or settled in. Nice step by step though I’d add rinsing, washing, or spraying water on the concrete both to get the dust off as well as to aid with bonding though that, in part can be mitigated by the bonding agent. For bonding to old concrete I find wetting and a mix in bonding additive gives better results than a paint on style bonding agent; I usually only use paint on bonding agents on painted, sealed, or non-porous existing concrete. There are flow additives which help make concrete flow without adding additional/extra water which can weaken concrete.

Yeah, you better work quickly. I DO NOT use quick-setting Quikrete for jobs like this. If you use regular setting cement, you won't have to fill in the holes after removing the form because it will easily form perfectly because it's not trying to get hard FAST. I'd recommend just the high strength mix, not the quick setting. That's just me.
