My friend, also named Simon, has a medjool date factory in northern Lebanon. He gave me a huge box of them recently. Sadly I’ve eaten them all now but shall plant one of the stones next time I get another batch from him.

Sorry, I don't understand. You asked if we enjoyed dated, but then you say that if kept indoors it would just grow but it won't produce any dates. So will it produce dates if then transferred to outside or will it basically be like an infertile palm tree?

I brought some date stones home from Turkey some forty years ago. The plants have grown rather well in our Orangery. We harvest between 18 and 24 lbs of fruit each year between three trees - 24 lbs this year. (Deep in the English countryside).
