What was this event? The Combat Sports Open Trials was a Amateur MMA event held in the UK between 2000 and 2010, during which time they hosted well over 1,000 Amateur MMA fights and saw many famous fighters hone their skills at grass-roots entry level who went on to fight in events such as UFC(TM), Heros' (TM), Dream (TM) etc.

In the UK Amateur MMA is full contact, but no head shots are allowed, making it an ideal 'sport' format for those first starting in the sport.

Fighters are required to wear gloves, shin pads, knee pads, and gumshield. Additionally each fighter wears a belt, which helps denote blue and red corners and also helps give more traditional martial artists something they can utilise in their grappling.

Although full contact, due to the no head shot rule this enables fighters to be far freer than they would be in professional rules MMA, meaning they often try things that maybe they wouldn't dare in pro MMA, leading to some very interesting matches and making the format quite unique.
