I was really hoping that watching this video would save me some money. Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to buy one now. 😁😆
ОтветитьHell, if I hadn't watched this video I probably never would have bought it... Damn good review :) )))))
ОтветитьI already had the electrician and I bought the farmer X for the price of the farmer. I want the pioneer X and my wife wants the Swiss army 2…. And of course as a French normal guy I already got a Spartan and a climber for the cork screw….
ОтветитьEver considered the Harvester X? I like the pruning knife over the canopener a hundred times better. Ice video!
ОтветитьThe music is totally unnecessary and just annoys....
ОтветитьYou are right sir. For absolute perfection they can change the bottle opener for the small curved blade of the Harvester...
ОтветитьNot sure if I praise you for a clever ending but by default scold you for a "click bait" thumbnail 😉. Thanks MB.
ОтветитьYou are wright Sir, I bought The Victorinox Farmer Alox, and believe that I don't need another Alox anymore, because this alox have everything. Greetings from Argentina.
ОтветитьI bought a Pioneer X and after about 5 minutes, I decided to sell it. Those scissors were really hard to get out.
ОтветитьToo late, have one already but it hasn't stopped me buying others lol.
ОтветитьGreat review.
ОтветитьI was in a quandary for most of your review, even if I enjoyed your content. At first I disagreed with your count of 4 reasons not to buy the Farmer X until I heard in your summary that reason 4 was because a person may never buy another SAK if they owned the Farmer X. I really did enjoy your review as you tied it up at the end, but I have to tell you that I immediately bought a second one as a gift for a brother-in-law because we both enjoy the configuration that Victorinox put into it. Yes; it's beefy and heavy but at my current age of 78 years, and remembering when I was 19-22 yrs old carrying 60 lbs of 40mm grenades on patrol in Viet Nam to feed my M-79 launcher for them, the Farmer X really didn't seem to be an issue: Merely a matter of perspective, I contend. Thanks for a great video on a subject I have enjoyed since the 1970s.
ОтветитьI just bought one of these today from Amazon for $59. I already had a red Alox version as a collector's item and this one I'll actually use and carry in my bag. I had bought the regular Victorinox Farmer for my relatives in 2020 and they seemed to like them. I prefer all my Victorinox's to have a scissor, which I use often.
ОтветитьGood video👍Whilst I love the Alox versions, I would miss the scale tools. Unless you really need a saw, I can recommend the Climber as a good all-rounder.
ОтветитьThanks a lot for your video.
I own a Farmex X, it was my first alox. I hesitated A LOT with the Harvester (Swiss Army 7) but the store didn't have it (I wanted to see it before buying) and I want a knife with a ring.
I so agree with you when you say this knife is good in an urban or a country environment.
I dream about a "Harvester X", a Farmex X with the pruner blade in replacement of the can opener.
About the scale tools, I fix the problem with a... 58mm (a rambler). Always in my bag. This knife is not cheap, it cost the same price as a climber (which is one of the best value from Victorinox with the Super Tinker and the... Waiter !). You can also get a really usefull and cheap 58mm knife with the Rally : The Rally has the small blade, philips screwdriver, nail file / screwdriver and scale tools for a ridiculous price (18$). Yeah, you don't have small scissors but the Farmer X has scissors... (I change the scale of my Rally to get the 58mm pen instead of the toothpick).
I also have a Hunstman (my first Victorinox), the Hunstman is the 91mm brother of the Farmer X. But the feeling is really different. The Hunstman is an outdoor knife, a good balance between size / weight and tools. (If I have to replace my Hunstman, I think my choice will be the Ranger).
The feeling with the Farmer X is to be a gentleman Farmer...
I absolutely love my Farmer X and have a mini champ on the way. 😁
ОтветитьMore than 40 years ago my grandfather gave me a farmer alox in red ( no scissors then) . I tried out some other victoinox because i thought they might be better. But i am always coming back to the farmer ! 🙂
ОтветитьIve been arguing with myself on whether or not to buy a farmer x, (im a spyderco fanboy, i ALWAYS have a para 3 on me with my purse 'pouch' that has my knipex and a few other tools) so ive never needed a SAK, but lately im weirdly digging them and it makes me want to add a few pieces to my collection
ОтветитьRecently bought this model and absolutely feel it is the best reliable utility pocket knife out there today.
Thanks for your wonderful downright truthfull video - the more you deny it, the more this model Alox farmer X becomes, - afirms its utility, presence and importance in a simple name. - The humble king !
Thank you friend !
The width sure isn't 117mm? Is it 17mm?
ОтветитьMy first victorinox I bought was at age 15 it was a champ . I've had one with me ever since ,like 31 years . . I got in the limited edition 2024 pioneer x and I got the army 7 last night . I've had them with me all day long ,
I'm going through the same dilemma and logic that you are but with a twist I'm comparing the farmer x alox with the field master . I also agree adding the special blade from the army 7 to the farmer x would be great .
Reverse psychology. LOL
ОтветитьMy only gripe with the Farmer X is how thick that knife is.
Nice video though. 🙂
Big Sak I have besides my ranger or workchamp
ОтветитьI totally agree. I have all of these, and others. The bantom is the only one I alternate with now. This has forced the retirement of my cadet and pioneer x. I love them all, but the farmer x and the bantom get the pocket time now.
ОтветитьMy absolute favorite SAK. Been carrying my Alox Farmer X for over 3 years. Never leaves my jean pocket. I have the Red one which is gorgeous. Bought it at knife center.
ОтветитьGreat video,I have the explorer, pioneer alox & waiting on the alox farmer x to be delivered and I dought I'll be buying another SAK unless it's a gift for someone👍👌
ОтветитьI have about 25 SAK, but have never been tempted by this one. The alox knives are brilliant, for what it is worth, the regular pioneer is the best model, amazing knife. Cadet os also very good as an EDC.
ОтветитьI'm currently toying between the huntsman and the farmer x as an upgrade to my climber and pioneer. I'm a city guy, and the main "need" from a sak is for snacking. The scissors you always need, the blade cuts a kiwi, apple, lime, whatever, the reamer to open the foil of that jar of peanut butter, etc. The bottle cap lifter I use quite often, and the can opener twice a week at least. But the saw is the best thing ever to shave some chocolate into a yoghurt or grate some hard cheese onto a salad. The hunter is cheaper, as cute as they get, and has the corkscrew and the hook, two tools I "enjoy" more than need. However the farmer x is an alox model, and that means easy to keep clean. Wash, brush, ultrasonic buzz, some food grade mineral oil, and it's back in business. No plastic scales to gather gunk underneath and incubate some new pandemic after some accident with a can of tuna.
ОтветитьI have one and the Limited Edition Damast Alox X
ОтветитьI have one and it’s my light forest knife (the heavy forest knife being the Outrider). Indeed it’s almost perfect, I like it a lot.
I have several Alox. I always pick the Minichamp and add another one, depending on my needs: the Bantam when I wanna go minimalist, the Cadet at the office, the Pioneer or Pioneer X in town or at home.
To carry some tweezers although there is no scale tools on the Alox models, I simply put it under the scissors. Works well 👍🏻
Also, I have a little aluminium case as a keychain, in which I put the mini screwdriver for glasses, a few little magnets and the tool for SIM card.
When traveling (not by plane), I add a pouch in my bag with a multitool Spirit X, a mini ratchet and a set of heads.
This is what I call my layers of SAK 😊
I would not buy it, but if it had a file instead of saw, I definitely would
Ответитьi was so ready to fight when i saw the title lol
ОтветитьDamn, just bought two.
ОтветитьI always thread the Quattro screwdriver (from the Swisscards) onto the short lanyards for some extra utility.
ОтветитьI had one and I miss it
ОтветитьTo be honest, I love my Farmer X. It has really everything you need on your way. As you said, nearly perfect for city or outside use. And regarding your four reasons I'd like to state as following:
1.) Well, yes. It isn't "cheap". But worthwile each cent.
2.) Regarding the missing scale tools there was a really good proposal made by Felix Immler having the scale tools put together with a shrink tube and then stored below siccors and saw as there is enough space to do so. Works perfectly and I have these tools always with me.
3.) Weight. Everyone has a different feeling about what's heavy or bulky. For me it's not a problem at all as I was used to have a Outrider with me all the time. Yep. THATS another kind of thing ;-)
4.) That's not a reason at all. The Pioneer X models are/were responsible for my collector's passion with Swiss Army Knifes. Cannot resist if a special version is released.
So the Farmer X became my favorite day to day SAK and I really enjoy having it with me all day long. For me the perfect EDC - especially after adding the scale tools below the saw and siccors.
Great knife. It is also missing the back tools
Ответитьit is cheap! That amount of swiss precision engineering and workmanship for under 50???? you cant mad it cheaper in GB
Ответитьnice conclusion 😄
ОтветитьJajaja i knew It!! "Four reasons for not..." The BEST knife for me i think. If Victorinox include the the little knife instead of canopener would be amazing.
ОтветитьFarmer X is in my pocket now. Works great. I only miss the small blade.
ОтветитьI picked up the Farmer X today before watching your video. I wanted an SAK with the blade, saw, scissors and awl. This checked all the boxes and had a few extra tools that will come in handy.
ОтветитьThe farmer x is my favorite swiss
ОтветитьToothpick and Tweezers matter not at all to me mostly useless. Weight, meh, I'll deal with it. Great EDC knife for me.
Ответитьfantastic EDC worth every penny hang a clip hang it in your pocket tooth pick tweezers you can get by knife to pick slivers your med kit probably got better one looks like we have a stand off cowboy😂😂😅😂
ОтветитьFarmer X is my favorite outdoor EDC. Always in my belt on fishing trips and hiking. I have 20+ SAKs but this is in my top 5.
ОтветитьI want this with the plastic scales
ОтветитьIt's my go to. Buy it!
