Wilson Shift 99 Tennis Racquet Review: Raw Speed. Controllable Power. Great feel.

I see myself as a 2.5 player. I started playing this year, and I was using a Head Microgel Extreme 2008 (295g, 100 sq in). My coach told me that it was a good racket, but the technology is outdated. So, I asked him for advice on which racket to choose, and he recommended the Wilson Ultra 100, the Babolat Aero, and the Wilson Shift 99, which is the one I bought.

I’ve seen many videos saying that the Shift 99 isn’t a beginner’s racket, and now I’m afraid it might not be suitable for me. Do you think it’s possible for me to handle this racket at my level?

I tried the Pro Staff last week. I felt good control over the ball, but I had to make a huge effort just to get the ball over the net.

@TW - I have the same issue as Jason where I have a flatter backhand and am struggling to get enough depth as compared to my forehand. Do you have any recommendations in terms of adding weight to the racquet to solve this? Thank you!

how will this play when using a natural gut? I thought it may help in reducing the stiffness

I’d recently switch to 2022 pure aero. I switch because I like to spin and swing fast. I believe it is arm friendly. Do you think it’s along the same line? Is it better?

Jason's tennis shoes look great. Wilson Rush Pro's? Would you say that they're high on comfort / cushioning? (I love the Nike GP Turbo but they stopped making them)

I love this racquet leaded up but after about 2 months of hitting with it, that stiffness is starting to wear on my arm... 😞 I wish they would bring out a version with slightly more flex.

Too bad wilson QC is absolutely horrendous and no two Shifts will play the same right off the rack 😢

TW Staff: I presently play with the lab Shift 300. Is there a discernible difference between the lab and final edition that would make an upgrade worth it? Please be honest… 🎾

I haven’t hit the 300, but if it’s anything like the 315 it’s the new Wilson Pure Drive. Not a knock, but this feels like their response to PDs

How does it compare with the Pure Strike 98? I'm looking to change my Pure Strike 98 for a more forgiving racket, I'm getting older and need a bit more power and forgiveness, I've played with a Pure Aero and Pure Drive, but they are too powerful, I thought of the Head Gravity MP or pure Strike 100. How will the Wison Shift 99 fit in this case? I hit a lot of topspin on my forehand, and flatter one hand backhand

How does this racket compare to the core 98 and 100, pure aero 98, and the wilson blade 98 v8 16x19?
