There is more to this you are missing. Donut people didn't just leave cause they wanted to make more money. They left because the channel got sold, they didn't get a cut and the new owners turned the channel super corporate, they sucked the fun out of the job, and wouldn't listen to their ideas, a few of them didn't like the new environment so they moved on. It wasn't just a basic I just want to make more money issue.

they might feel bad to put their production team in that situation. unemploy those people that helped you who have families. unless a big corp can transfer their talent to someone else. agreed though. those talents make a break the whole channel

The creators are the value behind the channels, a big channel without talent are worthless no matter the size.
If they were smart they would give equity to the creators, its not only fair to them, it's the smart thing to do, keeping them "tied up" to you.

James said it in his video, he felt an ownership of the channel but evidently didn’t own anything. When faced with the reality, that was a breaking moment.

They are passionate about their stuff costing them their health and money. When the passion isn’t there anymore, it is the end.

I’m glad Doug called some of those people out that said they’re leaving b/c of “creative differences” when it’s really about the money.

The way Doug says making $100,000 a year to just talk about and enjoying cars while letting a company take all the responsibility like it's a bad thing.

Nothing but greed, six figures is nothing to sneeze at and letting the company take all of the risk? They deserve the millions.

People need to be grateful for the easy cushy jobs they have!

One thing you didn't touch upon: owning your own YT channel and exploiting it being self-employed, means owning a business and comes with it all the business stuff. You nerd over spreadsheets, Doug but lot's of creatives don't. I think that withholds lots of people starting for themselves.

If you are a new creator and decide to work for a big company at first to gain followers, make sure you and a lawyer read every word of your contract before jumping in blindly. Big companies have a tendency to do some "fine print" trickery and do things you wouldn't even think would be legal but, if you didn't read it and blindly sign it, it's on you. A company can own you, your name, your likeness, etc and state in the contract that you can't do something like create your own channel if you leave or get terminated until a certain amount of time passes. Don't put ANYTHING past them. It'll be tempting to do whatever they ask of you if you're new and unknown. Just don't screw yourself in the long run.

idk, Doug. Maybe @JasonCammisa likes the stability of a paycheck from Hagerty and the assurance that there will be an endless audience of teens and not-really-enthusiasts to watch drag race videos rather than vastly more interesting stuff we all know he's capable of. ☹

Starting to get annoying. Wear better shirts and stop the pretending. The “working man” driving a Ford GT was believable but the “I have my own car auction site” along with :20 min reviews and the t-shirt and dirty shorts, seems laughable.

Liked old Doug. This one is getting annoying with the “kill it” sayings. Uh boy

What about NCC's? Aren't these major investors and corporate channels protecting themselves against this very thing? I suppose the 'talent' can rebrand if they leave a known channel, but isn't a large part of the appeal part in parcel with production? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think going on your own is as easy as Doug is suggesting here. Even the holy triumvirate from Top Gear struggled to keep it going after they left the BBC. Not all talent has the drive, motivation, and organizational skills that Doug and some other solo creators have - it will be interesting to follow however.
