Trailer or Fifth Wheel? WATCH THIS FIRST!!

I think you forgot another point trying to decide which way to go. We have been RVing since 1992. And have had several travel trailers. We prefer travel trailers all these years due to the fact
We like a cap on our truck to store things and keep them dry. ( bikes, grill, chairs ect. ) No can do with a fifth wheel.🤪

Thank you for that video, Josh. I own a barbershop, which is in my home. Our various RVs throughout the years have been parked on our property and my customers see them. We pretty much buy a new RV every four years so they have seen us go from pop-ups to travel trailers, to motorhomes and back to travel trailers but never a fifth wheel. I get asked a lot about which I prefer and what the differences are, but had no answers for them as far as fifth wheels. Now I can refer them to your video! And I have also have some knowledge on how to answer that question. So thank you 😊

I have a 37 foot long 2019 grand design rls TT, the reason I got this instead of a 5th wheel was price, but I would much rather tow a 5th wheel

Question- if someone were to get a toy hauler fifthwheel and there were motorcycles in the back, would that weight distribution then negate how well it handles driving?

This two-year old content is evergreen! Thank you! We’ve been searching for our next trailer and have just started considering fifth wheels instead of a fiberglass TT. This is very helpful information.
Also, the dealer of our first trailer (2011 S&T no slide Zinger, bought in 2021) thought nothing of putting us in that trailer knowing we didn’t have an appropriate tow vehicle, and also failed to disclose some repaired damage that I know they knew about, because I later found the insurance paperwork tucked in the owners manual. Suffice it to say that we now have a much bigger budget and I know that sales person still works there, but we will build our own travel trailer from the wheels up before we go back to that dealership.

The only real difference i see other then towing is. The master bedroom is alot nicer on the fifthwheels vs tow behind

Dont want a toy hauler. Dont want to go big to jave a toy hauler. I can put my atv on the truck bed cover with a scooter. Dinghy boat under the cover with its 20hp motor. All in 22ft.

We have a 32’ Puma Palomino bumper pull trailer (with a bunkhouse in back). It weighs about 9700 lbs. We just sold our 2002 Excursion with the 7.3 diesel engine. We had less than 100,000 miles on it. We had that SUV since it was new, but rarely ever drive it any more. And when we drive it, we no longer enjoy driving it. So we sold it, and have been planning on selling our 2017 Ford F150 2.7 EcoBoost to get a Ford F150 2021, 22 0e 2023 with the 3.5 EcoBoost. We don’t take the RV out that much. But I’m worried if the F150 3.5 EcoBoost is going to be strong enough and not get pushed around by the RV. I know a F250 is better, but not sure I can talk my husband into it, as the gas mileage will drastically change,, and now we have to get a longer bed, so the truck becomes a bigger one to drive day to day. Its my day-to-day vehicle. Any insight you can give me would be appreciated. We just didn’t want 3 cars anymore - we put 2000 miles on that excursion is almost 2 years! It was a beast for towing, but though in excellent condition, just didn’t have the nice electronics we enjoy and really drove like a truck! Thank you

In my city people used to always have gooseneck trailers to show off their money. This year I have only noticed one fifth wheel around here. Everyone around here, traded in their fifth wheel trailers for brand new bumper pull campers. Most of these bumper pulls have slideouts and start out at $35,000 in our area brand new.

What really scares me is seeing a medium sized SUV pulling a 30'+ travel trailer on the highway with his tail and hitch dragging almost on the ground. Just saw that senario last week driving upstate to take delivery on our new Grand Design TT.

Great information right there the wife and I been thinking of getting a trailer or 5thwheel for home base I'm a truck driver otr and we hunt big game so only time we would move it be for hunting trips or scouting trips and 100% dry camp what would you suggest us looking towards for that

I realize that a F150 isn't going to do it. For a 5th wheel but I even seen that a F350 might not even do it. Depending on the 5th wheel rv. An F450 or even F550 might be required. So that's a whole Lotta truck with a whole Lotta $$$$

As a live-in option, I go fifth wheel hands down.

Hey, Josh, great video, lots to consider. I’m retired, divorced and am considering a RV for a summer destination and a winter destination. I’d spend Oct-Mar in central Texas where family is and then get the hell out of here for Apr-Sep and live in the PNW or the PNE or anywhere averaging low 80s or cooler. I will not pull the RV, I would want a licensed professional to relocate the RV twice a year. Can you or anyone reading this tell me if I could easily find a service to do this and the approximate cost from central Texas to a New England state or to the PNW. I see you have a location in Longview, TX so I’d love to visit when I get ready to make a decision.
I’m sure a 5th wheel will cost more. I’m open to a TT and also like the destination trailers, as long as I find one with some 5th wheel amenities, which you/your representatives and I could hash out when I’m ready to move forward.

What about how the actual towing characteristics: a travel trailer follows you, the fifth wheel cuts the corner. I personally prefer the travel trailer for this reason. (Note, I said personally))

Hi, im a first timer and i am so confused in which type is best for my family. We are a family of 4 , who dont plan on moving the RV too much maybe 2-3x a year. Most of the year we will be park and living in it full time.

Recently looking for a RV. SINGLE, RESCUE A PUPPY... NO FAMILY NO FINANCE CASH... AT LEAST 6000 POUNDS... 26... AND ABOVE half ton truck

I have no intention of buying a trailer or fifth wheel but your content is so honest and well spoken, I will subscribe.

Hey Josh, I really found a lot of value in your video. Nothing I didn't know before hand, but it is sertainly great to hear you speak about this topic to make sure people don't take that truck and tow rig marriage so lightly. I used to be one of those people who thought "I have a big truck with a huge engine, I should be fine towing anything under the sun if the truck can move it". And ai am talking about a 1500 gm truck with the 6.2. Not a great thought to be honest.

Now, I would like to add some value to you and your business. So... have you ever thought about purchasing 3 or 4 trucks (one of each category) and have them displayed conected to a trailer or RV?

I'm thinking about a trailer lineup from lightest to heaviest well suited for a half ton crew cab truck and that heavyest one actually clnected to it. And then the lightest you wouldn't conect to a half ton up to the heaviest you would connect to a 3/4 ton truck. And then the 1 ton category and finally the dually category.

Maybe that could help your clients to visually see the categories and understand them better.

And you could also have a truck to make a towing demo for them. Somethimes, people know hoe to tow, but they will feel very unconfortable towing in the upper limits due to the forces a large trailer can put into the truck. And they might then decide to go for a smaller trailer/RV, go from a trailer to an RV or to a bigger truck to be able to tow the RV they want.

You might even sell a truck or 2 in the process

Everything you’re say is right and correct. The issue is when a customer comes to a lot and wants to be asked all these fit mint questions. Thank makes the purchase and later finds out 90% of all dealership folks do not Rv themselves. The fitment just becomes a sale and not a relationship. 90% of us buyers will ever get to talk to you or the likes of you….. You always rock my Brother.

Which one is easier to back up and best for a beginner?

so here goes... my 2019 ram 1500 limited has a payload capacity of 1250 lbs.... and I was looking at a 2024 GMC 2500, it has a payload capaicty of 3490 lbs.... No way my 1500 can tow a 5th wheeler... The limiting factor is most always payload.... weight of all passengers and cargo in the truck and that includes tongue weight... If I wanted to tow a 5th wheeler then i would have a 2500 or better yet a 3500 with dual tires

Total salesman video. Well said, but at the end of the day you should have a 3/4 or full ton truck if you are serious about a trailer. If you're on a budget and cant afford to do that, thats okay. Get a travel trailer.

If you can afford it, a 5th wheel is better all around.

I honestly feel that the best trailer for us the salesman pushed off on us was the one they made the best $ on.I really wish some dealers would test everything b4 selling a brand new unit.First time out realized the factory did not install one of the bed window shades and still no water from the kitchen fuaset, the only suggestion is to take off the aerator, tried that still nothing ,I really don't won't to loose a day off and a 35 gallon tank of gas to tow it back for them to look at it🤦‍♂️

Hey Josh, I hope you get this, I’m interested in a 30’ toy hauler travel trailer or 35’ fifth wheel but I want a toy hauler so I need some help determining which one. I’m a full timer and I put about 10-15k miles per year on the road and I have a 2020 F250 with the 7.3 Godzilla gas engine short bed

I know this video is 3 years old but it was still helpful. I've never owned an RV or TT but will be looking into renting each kind, at least a couple of times for weekend "getaways". My plan is to live in one FULL-TIME. I want something roomy and with enough space to work, since I work from home full-time. It'll be my son and I...and I want him to have some privacy. I just don't know what kind would be good to live in full-time. We do plan on getting away on some weekends, since we're 30 minutes from the beach and about 2 or 3 hours from RV Resorts near the river. Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Another note: a 30ft 5th wheel will be “shorter” than a 30ft TT (length of truck plus trailer when hooked up)
