Interesting
ОтветитьThe last MGB wing i fitted must have been on and off 20 times before it finally fit properly, a challenge for sure.
Ответить😢
ОтветитьYou would have been better to bolt the wing in place and then made a template of the profile required to thr scuttle with tape, you could then made a new section and then stich it in to place on the wing, would have saved you more time. For the door shut you should have made a cut parallel to the door shut and again stitch it back together, you would the achieve the gap you require .
ОтветитьIts coming on , the pals were a crap fit from the factory lol
Ответить😊
Ответить"Easy quick win" on an MGB, you're an optimist , seriously after all that work , and you thought they were going to drop in .. Oh Dear, but seriously dammed good job
Ответитьoooooooooooothe joys of old cars lol
ОтветитьMan I thought my garage was small! Restorations never go easy but worth it!
ОтветитьI guess I was lucky with mine. Mine just bolted up and the gaps were ok with a bit of adjustment of doors & bonnet
ОтветитьNot one of these cars left the factory straight. But you are doing a great job.👍
ОтветитьOnce I was cutting up an MGB GT for its panels and I cut through the A pillar. Inside of the A pillar were 3 washers just like the one you dropped. I'm guessing they were in there from factory. That MG panel fitter must have been pissed!
ОтветитьHand built MGBGT, hand re-built body . JC 3/11/24 .
ОтветитьGreat job so far it's coming together & looks good m8 💯👍🏻
ОтветитьGreat video 👍Be picky with edges it's the details that matters! Bonnet hinges may have spacer plates or place a block of wood under bonnet hinge and twat with hammer
ОтветитьHaving worked in a car factory in the 60s and early 70s where there were no robots just jigs but panels always didn't fit properly some had big gaps and it was up to the man fitting these parts to even out any gaps, on a moving body on the production line. This was more complicated than the men got credit for. So you could buy a dozen panels and each one would fit differently. That always amazed me as they came off the same press tool.
ОтветитьI wonder if the bad fitting wing was an aftermarket version.
ОтветитьOn my 74, the splash guard has 2 rubber pieces. There is one smaller horizontal piece which gets riveted to the body. Probably the way you did it with one piece is OK and who knows, maybe even better.
ОтветитьAlso take caution welding the front corner of the wing where the grill, bonnet and wing meet. That is a factory leaded joint. These leaded joints can release lead oxide gas if you try and weld over them. Its important to wear a respirator that is capable of filtering out lead oxide gas. I personally use a 3M 2097 respirator filter for welding galvanized metal or areas with potential leading.
ОтветитьIf you can still get the paint these days, some single stage 'knacker Lacquer' as we used to call it, mixed to body colour and painted over the POR 15 would do the job on that oil cooler panel. It I said also good 'under the arches' as it is quite a soft paint. When it gets tired, one just Flats the shine of it and gives the arch a fresh coat
Ответить1 thing that annoyed me when I were inbthe trade..........trying to fit panels to customers cars which they supplied and didn't fit!!!you've had a small taste of my life before i had my stroke.....now i just watch you struggle, great effort!remember its only steel and you have a welder n ginder
ОтветитьWow you are doing a fantastic job on the car. Those panel gaps will be better than the day it left the factory (no surprise there lol). I’m so enjoying this series.
ОтветитьWell done sir, your patience must have sorely tested. Great job. Cheers.
ОтветитьPanel gaps are often an issue with these cars. I have watched Fitzee's channel where he does the same on 1930's cars. Now sir, YOU are also an expert. Well done. That is some courage and achievement.
ОтветитьKeep it up fella. The car's going to be superb. Great to hear you're not going to sell it and have plans beyond the respray. I'll be watching with interest 👏
ОтветитьBe patient and keep your cool as you try to fit the fenders. Even new BMH panels from the original stamping press molds require fitting up and some slight modifications in order to fit correctly. I remember that one bolt you have been frustrated by and I swore there was a very small person at the MG factory whose sole job was to install that bolt. This is one of those that requires "educated" fingers to finally get installed. Keep fixing the rust as you come across it. You will sleep better at night knowing you did it right.
ОтветитьI fitted early wings on a later MGB, part of my conversion from rubber to chrome. My wings were badly corroded at the bottom around the sill area, and because I was doing the conversion I decided on new wings, they fitted fine. My 1974 MGB I'm restoring at the moment doesn't have the join / seam like I've seen before between the wings and the other body panels, they are all smooth, no doubt there is some dodgy stuff going on here, and I'm not going to touch or investigate any further, they look fine.🤣😂
Ответитьwell done
ОтветитьI just have to say; thank you for sharing the difficulties as well as the successes you've had with this project.
Those wings proved that you can actually age 20 years in just a couple of days!
I want you to know that your videos continue to inspire me on my own mgbgt project here in the states.
Keep at it. Take breaks. The finish line is in sight!
Jp
Coming together nicely H. It's a big venture, to do it right takes a bit of time, you're doing well. Cheers.
Ответитьwhich welder do you use carry on the good work where did you get them wings i had no prob with mine from mg oweners club
