I wrote down every example you gave and my opponent played g6 on the 4th move. The next opponent played d5 on the 4th move. Wasn't sure the best way to respond in either case.

d4 is no different from gambit pawn.

I’ve been playing a guy who always plays 2…BC5…..and then captures with the wrong piece on 3….exd4.

After the ensuing bishop sacrifice he moved his king rather then capture the bishop

He does this everytime so I’ve actually started trying a new opening against him cause it’s a little boring

Which is good! Learning a new opening.

Thanks for the great video. I've gone from 900 to 1450 rapid playing the Bishop's Opening, thanks to your videos. Nice to see more discussion of it in this video. I'll definitely be studying.

My favorite opening is getting a crash course! Nice. This is a great addition to the existing Bishop's Opening playlist, which I have studied at least three times! You feature the highest quality content out there, for sure

Even if you want to transpose into an Italian game using the move order e4, Bc4 takes opponents out of their comfort zone right away and they spend a good amount of time thinking on move 2. I've used this several times and by move 3 I sometimes have a 30+ seconds advantage, which can be crucial later on.

Great video as always! I'm curious how to play the bishops opening against uncommon defenses of black. It's the wild west out here in the 900 to 1000 elo range. Your videos have helped immensely though. Thanks Igor!

In that sample game, black playing Bb4+ was an inaccuracy because it helped white develop their bishop and forced the black bishop to retreat.

The best follow-up after 2) ...Nf6 is 3) Qh5! Then, after 3)... Nxe4, 4) Qxf7 comes from out of nowhere! And look closely--IT'S CHECKMATE!
