Why can't you make it so it charges while you're driving? I thought that was gonna be the whole point of using the solar panels to be mobile and constantly charging on the way.

That's so nostalgic in the USA today , in the USA you would have a hard time driving that on the roads here. We have very strict laws in most areas that could get your Sun Car impounded by the police 😔

a small gas engine can do 100km on one gallon of gas, 500km in a day for $30. is solar power worth it?

I was right! You needed some wind generators on poles, and you would be getting good charge!

For all the people saying to have it charging while driving. It wouldn't technically "charge" bc he'd be drawing more power than coming in. So if anything it'd just slow the drain. It'd still be a decent idea. I'd Def recommend a small wind turbine or 2 on the front so when you're parked or driving it'd be another source of charge. Also a small generator would be a good idea for emergencies. It'd defeat the whole off grid solar vehicle but it'd help. It also looks like you dont have any balancers on those batteries. You're gonna end up damaging them without one and you're loosing efficiency

a good battery idea would be building stacks of those vape pen batteries. they're bigger than double A's. i've seen ppl linking them up to make a huge power cell which is effectively what tesla cars use.

It is really great to see how much you can achieve with parts from literally trash. It takes courage to take on a journey with that. Cudos!
However, 1kW seems quite excessive for that light vehicle and low speed. To me it seems, you could do a fair bit of optimizing to cut down on power draw.

Why don't you have some of your panels mounted to the car so you charge as you go? There is sun car in Santa Clara, CA with the entire body covered in solar panels. It runs while recharging.

It would be very worth having a couple small wind turbines that are easy to disassemble, maybe a hawt, as well as a vawt, even if it's only 10 amps each, that's possible 24/7 power!!

Your front and back panels have shadows on several cells, these panels won't produce at all (and can even dissipate the energy from the top panel if there aren't diodes !)

5 minutes into the video and I realize he should have #1 built a teardrop aerodynamic shape vehicle #2 brought along a portable wind turbine 😂 #3 make foam dtiver seat that can lay flat into a bed.
I noticed open roads like this are almost always very windy. Compared to inside town. The headwinds like these can often make bike packers quit. Since they can last all day long for several days.
If this was a better vehicle, I think it could be doable. Especially with aerodynamic trailer for gear and image a vertical axis wind turbine that could be quickly setup and taken down that didn't weigh a bunch or take up a bunch of room.
I don't think there is a way but imagine if you could somehow rig up a turbine that could generate electricity from the wind without creating wind drag on the vehicle. Or only made minimal drag to it could generate more electricity than the wind drag slowing it down.

There is a few improvements you probably wont read: Add a cargo on the back to have more solar cells charging whilst driving, prioritie only driving the car at night since you can charge all throughout the day but you cant charge at night so more efficient, use flexible solar cells for less mass, use lithium ion batteries to increase energy density hence increase efficiency again, use thicker wire to reduce resistance and also use even more solar cells since the flexible ones weigh a lot less and take up less space, place a fan on the backside of the solar panel since hot panels generate less energy, and finally, maybe drive even slower? Since air resistance is less of a factor
