Only problem was the sensor replace it and move on the shield is to protect it from rocks or sand gravel normal use youll be just fine waste of time replace the sensor drive on …… labor is stupid 😮
ОтветитьI was led to believe that you should never use an impact driver to (fully) put on the lug nuts…perhaps to get them started but then use a torque wrench to set the proper lug nut torque.
ОтветитьThank you for your words of encouragement and friendly demeanor.
ОтветитьA standard replacement rear axle for a 2017 Highlander can be had for $44 at rock auto. Standard replacement speed sensor is $110.
ОтветитьTo the Toyota owner, please keep going and continue to work and learn on your own repairs. This is exactly how we all learn and that is by doing. It is always ok to make mistakes along the way because that is exactly how we learn what didn’t work and what not to do again. Experience is always the best teacher. One piece of advice for DIY folks, search for you tube videos of what you are trying to do first. Watch others doing the repairs first and you will learn what to do and what not to do by watching others along with great tips and tricks. This is a great time to be a DIY person with today’s technology.
Keep up the great work. And to Car Care Nut, thank you so very much for being a stand up guy and continuing to create and provide us your channel and teachings. Love you man.
very cool! What is that steering wheel cover, I really like it!
ОтветитьThe differential fluid
ОтветитьThanks for all your help 🙏 😊
ОтветитьThe shield that's bent could have been fixed by other shops specializes for that, or maybe there's an aftermarket part.
Ответить"says left right here,.. says left right here.. this is how we know this is the right side"
I know its not actually grammatically incorrect or anything just gave me a chuckle lol 😂
LOL! I can't afford you trying to save me money.
ОтветитьGood video.
Recently the volume of your videos are very low and the commercials blow me out
So, why you didn’t just change an abs ring? Why try to straighten it as you talk you've tried?! Abs ring is cheap, I guess under $50, but part sellers don't want to sell it separately and it is hard to find. Why change all axle which is expensive and still perfectly fine?! Just to save time looking for a part? Also, making a video about it, and talking so much.. i had the same abs sensor problem on my old chrysler 300. Many shops suggested to replace axle with the ring on it, as they said ring is not sold separately. After googling for a while I found out that mercedes E had the same abs ring. Ive bought it for $20, replaced it (which was about same procedure) and it worked just fine. Never had to replace exle and spend thousand $$$
ОтветитьDIY strikes again! 😂😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьGreat point about the DIY. I'm a tradesman in my job but I DIY other stuff too. Because i come from a different country, every now and then while doing my job I'll see something that surprises me. Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes I know it wasn't done right originally straight away. As AMD emphasized, "none of us are born knowing everything". It really is a great takeaway!!!
ОтветитьGreat video.
I am not a Toyota mechanic, however we work on many brands. I generally take a small dab of grease and put it on the inner axle c clip to help center it when going into diff or transaxle.
Trail and error is the best way to learn anything. And if you can acquire a mentor that’s a plus.
Ответить😊
ОтветитьI'll save you 40 minutes. Improper installation.
ОтветитьReally good info throughout this whole video. Thanks TCCN
ОтветитьThanks, enjoyed it all.
ОтветитьKIA recommends snap ring opening on top :-)
ОтветитьThe bearing bolts on my rear wheels are in the back too and its a 2008 RAV4, its not something they just changed
ОтветитьDid I miss the diff refill?
ОтветитьElement brakes are made by Raybestos
ОтветитьIf things "go really south", that's good, since we're always right down here! 😅😅 It was obviously a Yankee who messed this up, right? 😂😂 Good advice on the axle removal and installation, though. You can also lay a brass bar over the end of the axle and hammer on it, if you don't have a soft faced hammer. I really liked the video, except for the continuous slur against the South. And you're right about not getting discouraged.
ОтветитьI brought raybesto element 3 coated rotors. Not sure if they’re affiliated pads but I have no issues with the rotors (I used akobono pads)
ОтветитьI have learned more from failure than success. But with the internet, you can learn from other people's mistakes.
ОтветитьIf you get the dimensions of the plastic ring, you can get it 3d printed by various online services in the plastic of your choice.
ОтветитьI DIY as well, I've made mistakes and I've learned from them! I know when I make mistakes it may cost me some money. So I try my best to take my time and do my research for the work I'm doing or gonna be doing!
GREAT VIDEO thank you for sharing this! I done a few cv axles and wheel bearings. I'm glad you told the customer straight up and offered him all the options with the pros and cons of each option. Great the customer admitted, it is what it is, live and learn. Do it right is a great choice!
Don’t be discouraged - save £££ by DIY and gain experience - the odd mistake can happen to anyone. I just changed a coil spring for £16 vs. £250 at my local shop. Plus I have the knowledge it was all lubed up and rust proofed.
ОтветитьThey are Ray Bestos Element 3's. Actually very decent pads in my opionion. Very quiet, very clean, bite very well, and have been l;asting long without any noticible difference in performance. I've been using on my personal cars as well as customers cars. They are great pads for a great price. I use EBC or Akebono on more agressive cars. Rebuilt the axles in my sons FJ 1.5yrs ago and still running strong. I made sure to buy the correct boot clamp tool after your video too. Thanks for the education and wealth on knowledge you share! :)
ОтветитьThat 7m head was calling me🤣😅
ОтветитьYou're doing a good job but I disagree with the way you tighten the rear axle nut you should use a torque wrench and torque it to the proper value not just rely on an impact gun you really have no idea how much torque is on the nut now
ОтветитьI have had some very crooked mechanics at tire service places, tell me the parts I just replaced are bad and they want to replace them. Even a DIY person needs to know what they are doing. So, you can keep yourself from overpaying.
ОтветитьBtw, he didn’t use thread locker and didn’t tort to specification. I mean it should be fine but not perfect, that is why I DIY.
ОтветитьThat’s crazy that the service manual doesn’t address seized bearing removal procedures.
ОтветитьI have learned a lot by watching your videos! Saved me a lot of money over the years! Thank you sir!!!
Ответитьit boggles my mind that you simply cannot get a 'dust shield' for that axle ??? There HAS to be a way to get one of these things and just press it on... possibly 3D print it ??? Anyway- I really like your channel. Thanks for doing these vids.
ОтветитьWhy not offer saving $500 and order a seal to the specs of that axle and spindle opening?
ОтветитьUnfortunately mine are worser that worstest
Ответитьso many sensors
so many things to go wrong
I'll take that 60 series thanks
Anyone knows who manufactures CV axel unit for Toyota ?
ОтветитьSeal not available separately. On Daves garage the had a Nissan pickup with a bad front seal on the trans.Seal not available at all as a part, lol!
ОтветитьHad a buddy who was fishing one day and the game warden came up and asked for his license. He checked it. Gave it back. My buddy asked “just out of curiosity…what’s the fine for fishing without a license?” He said $100. My buddy goes “this is the first time in 15 years that I’ve had someone check my license. A license cost $35. So I just have to go 3 years without a license for the fine to pay for itself…ok” the warden was like pretty much yea. lol that’s how I feel about diy repairs. If you do it enough, that “giant mistake that costs you 1500 actually saved you 15 grand in tech wages over the course of years lol but on another note, the amount of parts now that you’d assume you can buy without having to buy the whole unit is ridiculous. I shouldn’t have to argue with the parts lady about getting trim clips because “Toyota doesn’t actually sell just the .50 cent clip. You have to buy the whole $150 trim piece” is getting out of hand. Also, those brakes are Raybestos. Yes they are good.
ОтветитьGlad I have a VW where the ABS sensor has a simple plug connection on it.
