UniFi G6 PTZ Review – Best PTZ Camera for UniFi Protect? [G5 PTZ vs G6 PTZ vs AI PTZ]

Does it include a surface mount that can be used to mount to a soffit? I can't do a wall mount.

Also G5 PTZ does have 2x optical zoom. It’s not a lot but it does have it. & it does work when auto tracking. At least mine does

The technical data page suggests that can it record both sensors at the same time at a smaller frame-rate - would of liked to see that feature. Wouldn't have the problem that it doesn't zoom in sometimes.

Holy cow it is huge, kind of glad I went with the G5 I just installed. It's already larger than I thought it would be and it kind of intimidating to my neighbors, the G6 would be even worse. Great cameras though. Unifi really needs to make the black cameras more available also.

Can it record both feeds at the same time ?? Only starting to watch the video.

Can you combine the conduit and corner mount together?

ordered two today for my ranch... a little nervous about install going try soffet mount. Depending on how I like it I might get the 30x that is coming out as well...=D

I could have sworn when they announced this camera they mentioned dual lens recording but at 15fps. Now I don’t see that mentioned on the website anymore and you didn’t cover it in your video unless I missed it

based on the range of movement and fov do you think its better to mount in the middle of a wall or at the corner?

When we say a camera can zoom 10x. Does that mean it will give me an image 100 feet away. That is the same as 10 feet away without zoom.

Thanks for a very thorough review! I just ordered three of these this morning for my new home build. I'm also piecing out a fresh Unifi rack to power these, so it's an expensive time.

Regarding tracking, not very similar. The G6 is MUCH better at tracking than the G5. Smoother, faster focus, etc. This camera is a huge upgrade over the 5 which itself, as you noted, isn't bad.

Night quality seems a lot better as well.

the G6 PTZ seems like a really nice camera. i am not sure if i missed the video of how good the license plate recognition is without AI port, AI Key and so on.... how good is it at detecting those? and faces

How is the two-way audio? Did you get to test that?

So is there use case to have the AI port and the AI key together in the same system if you have older cameras still in operation or does the AI Key Cover all the AI enhancements

The G5 PTZ does have a 2x zoom, and does It automatically when tracking.

Awesome. I only just learned today about that spotting/scout capability where one camera can assist the PTZ. That changes everything for me, since I used to think you could only manually control it. Now suddenly I'm on the market for it, hah. Great review Thanks for showing the comparisons as well. Coincidentally RIGHT as I made the decision to go ahead and go for it, it was in my cart, but it suddenly went out of stock. Oops! 😅

I actually wanted to swap my G5 PTZ for a G6 PTZ because, according to the data sheet, it has a (significantly) larger field of view. However, in the video, you can barely see any difference. Is the difference really not noticeable?

Does the AI key add anything to the G6?

And already sold out. I checked at 9 am - still showing available today. Now gone.

I have the G5 now, but I'm going to order the G6 when I get a chance. G5 has been great, but the extra optical zoom will just be next level. And the price isn't bad. The AI PTZ Industrial is just too big for a house IMO. Doesn't look great.

Is there a way to make it zoom in on someone more aggressively? Nevermind, I see you addressed that at the end

the 10x zoom on the G6 is great but I do always get a nice kick out of seeing the AI PTZ industrial go into 22x zoom

Can it follow objects that go underneath it?

Does it always record LPR with both cameras? For instance, can the wide-angle lens capture LPR if I've set it to zoom, and do the cameras work together to improve LPR capture?

Really enjoy your videos, but surely I'm not the only one who finds the scrolling white borders around the camera feeds really annoying and disruptive!

Love to see the zoom be setup to capture number plate of moving vehicle at night.

are the surface mount holes for the g5 and g6 the same spacing/size? mounting to stucco, so the less new holes the better

With the two sensors, I was expecting to see both wide and zoom views at the same time (different feeds), or a picture in picture like the doorbells. Not excited about the size, but I'm not happy with the G5 PTZ and how it is always hunting for focus, and it's behind the game when tracking. And yes, I'm up to date (early release) on the firmware on everything. I was hoping the firmware update would improve the focus. I do like the optical zoom on the G5 though. Does that mean the G6 doesn't have any mechanical zoom? Is it all digital zoom - but with two different lenses/sensors? Or is it optical to a point, then digital?
It would have been a good experiment to see the zoom between the two a bit slower, it did look like it was getting pixilated before it shifted to the other lens/sensor.

If there's the two lenses/sensors, does that mean there isn't a mechanical zoom? Less moving parts to break or wear out, but less quality in between the two native focal lengths.

So the optical zoom only works on live feed ? You cant use it while watching a recording ?
